They want to hear from you.

Island County Public Health has been working with school district nurses on the possibility of adding school-based healthcare access.

Early plans include the possibility of providing sports physicals at schools, as well as injury and concussion care.

While nothing is set in stone, those involved are asking parents in the Coupeville and South Whidbey school districts to take a short survey to help guide their efforts.

It’s (almost) growing season.

With spring peeking around the corner, the Deer Lagoon Grange in Bayview is hosting a seed swap this Saturday, Feb. 12.

The event, which is free and open to all, runs from 10 AM-2 PM.

What’s a seed swap?

Well, exactly what it sounds like, and a lot more.

Seeds of all sizes, shapes, and varieties will be swapped, and much gardening chatter will be heard.

You do NOT have to bring seeds to participate, though the more, the merrier.

Plants will be shared in addition to the seeds, along with charts on when it’s best to plant on Whidbey Island.

“Get inspired. Live the rural life of Whidbey,” said event organizer Sarah Kirkconnell. “Dream of warmer days in your garden … or the pots on your deck.

“Almost everyone can grow … even if you swear you have a black thumb.”
