Class is out, so they’re schoolin’ fools on the track.

Coupeville sisters Finley and Scotlyn Helm kicked off the summer racing season this past weekend, taking lil’ bro along for the ride — at least when the motor wasn’t revving.

The duo, who race in Monroe as part of the Washington Quarter Midget Association, had a ton of success as well.

Scotlyn, the younger of the sisters, but the one with the longest track resume, won both her heat race and A main event.

Older sister Finley, who enters middle school in the fall, earned 2nd place finishes in both of her bouts, while adapting to a higher race class.

“We have the power!!!”

“What a day at the track,” said dad/chief mechanic Jerry Helm, who doubles as Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue Chief.

Scotlyn was dropping the hammer all day long, and Finley battled hard against seasoned and respected track veterans, showing a ton of growth and confidence.”

Rounding out the family affair was mom Lindsey, who just wrapped another year teaching at Coupeville Elementary, and the littlest hot rodder.

Kasen Conner even enjoyed some seat time today,” said pops. “Mentally preparing for his driver training academy in 3.5 years!”

“Let’s get this party started!”

They’re thunder and lightning.

Coupeville sisters Finley and Scotlyn Helm continue to rip up the racing oval (and sometimes their own cars) in the pursuit of pedal to the metal excellence.

The duo is coming off of an eventful weekend, overcoming wrecks and broken car parts to triumph in Washington Quarter Midget Association races.

Both Helm sisters severely damaged their cars in the opening race Sunday, forcing dad/chief grease monkey Jerry Helm to scramble into repair mode.

Scotlyn, powering through on a wing and a prayer, limped in with a 3rd place performance “with one front tire pointing to the left and one pointing to the right.”

“Not exactly ideal for speed, but she powered through,” Jerry Helm said with a laugh.

Finley’s souped-up auto was more badly hurt after the opening fender benders, with “emergency duct tape and zip ties” not enough to get her across the finish line.

Finley Helm, always with a need, a need for speed.

Still, both sisters made it back to the track for the day’s second race after dad pulled off some automotive miracles.

Once back on the track, Scotlyn hit top speed, winning her race, while Finley careened in with a “solid 3rd place finish.”

“Powering through adversity, there were life lessons for everyone today,” said dad. “Super proud of their tenacity, and the grit they had on display today.”

The Helm sisters, who have a bubbly baby brother hankering to join the racing crew, have been super successful since joining the auto racing circle.

Scotlyn first hit the track in 2022, with Finley joining her this year.

You can get out of Scotlyn Helm’s way, or she can drive right over you. Your choice, skippy.

Weekends are for driving fast.

Coupeville’s Finley and Scotlyn Helm continue to slam the pedal through the metal as members of the Washington Quarter Midget Association.

With their little brother only a few days away from strapping himself into a car and hitting the gas, the duo continues to shine brightly in the racing world.

They’re building a dynasty here, one lap at a time.

The pit crew discusses strategy.

The Helm racing empire grows.

Both of Jerry and Lindsey Helm’s daughters are now pedal-through-the-metal race car drivers, with big sis Finley joining lil’ sis Scotlyn on the Washington Quarter Midget Association circuit.

Finley, who celebrated her 11th birthday over the weekend, had an immediate impact on the automotive world.

“I watched a fearless young woman defy gender-norms, bravely strap herself into a 300-pound mini-rocket ship for the first time and put on a real show for all who were in attendance,” her proud papa said.

“You could have lit the night sky with her smile all the way home.”

With Coupeville’s Helm sisters both piloting cars, now the only question is when the third sibling will join them.

Younger brother Kasen is still shy of his first birthday, but was heard to tell onlookers, “I have a need. A need for speed!” as Finley ripped up the racing track.

She’s coming for all your trophies, one lap at a time.

She still has her pedal through the metal.

Coupeville Elementary student Scotlyn Helm wrapped up her inaugural season racing cars with the Washington Quarter Midget Association Saturday and did so with great success.

The speedy racer competed in four races this season, across two different classes, landing on the awards podium three times.

“Couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments in such a short time,” said rad dad Jerry Helm.

She has a need for speed.

Scotlyn Helm is not done with racing, however, as she will pivot to dirt track racing in November.

If you’re interested in sponsoring her in her driving adventures — she needs dirt tires among other things — you can do so by popping over to Venmo and looking up her dad’s account at Jerry-Helm-1.
