At least five Wolves are still in the hunt for a state track title.
Super sophomores Makana Stone and Sylvia Hurlburt qualified to advance to tri-districts in three events apiece, thanks to top-five performances Friday at the 1A District 1 track and field championships at Lynden Christian High School.
They’ll be joined there by junior Marisa Etzell, sophomore Jared Helmstadter and freshman Lauren Grove.
Stone smashed her school record in the 400 (again) and both she and Hurlburt qualified in the 200.
Both girls ran a leg on the school’s 4 x 200 relay squad, where they were joined by Grove and Etzell, while Hurlburt made the grade in the 100.
Helmstadter set a PR in the 400 to become the only Wolf boy to advance.
There is still hope for several other CHS athletes, however, as two relay teams and freshman shot putter Skyler Lawrence claimed sixth-place finishes and would be the first alternates to tri-districts.
Tri-districts are May 22 and 24 at King’s High School in Shoreline.
