Against all odds, they almost pulled out a win.
Almost.
Despite losing four fumbles, two when they were in scoring position, the Coupeville Middle School football squad came dangerously close to pulling off a comeback win Wednesday in Langley, before falling by three points.
The very-young Wolves kept on coming hard into the final moments.
CMS launched an onside kick with a minute to go, but couldn’t quite come up with the ball for one final drive.
“It looked as though we had it (the ball), but after a little wrestling, we came up short,” said Wolf coach Bob Martin. “A little running, a little passing, it was our game to win, but our errors were the deciding factor.”
Coupeville, which is now 0-3, returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 8 when it travels to Granite Falls.
