Athletic success is pouring Down(es).
Angie Downes has gifted Coupeville schools with three talented sons — Hunter, Sage and the true superstar, Logan — and all three have made big impacts in the last couple of years.
Leading the pack is the oldest brother, the sling-it and wing-it QB (and today’s birthday boy), Hunter Downes.
Already the starting signal caller for the CHS football team before he hit the big 1-6, Hunter is one of those guys who tackles every sport he plays full-tilt, while never losing the grin that shows how much fun he’s having out there.
Relentless on the basketball court, where he beat opponents black and blue while winning the Mr. Hustle award as a freshman, Downes never backed down.
It’s a trait he has carried with him to the football field, where he has shot up the depth chart as he sailed through middle school ball and now on into his second year at CHS.
His day today is busy, I’m sure.
A birthday (the rock outside the school painted in his honor) and another practice as the Wolf gridiron squad prepares for Friday’s home opener, a tilt against Klahowya with huge playoff implications.
So, we won’t take up much more of his time.
But we do want to swing by long enough to say thank you to Hunter, for playing like a bat out of hell, and wish him a great birthday.
Keep kickin’ ass and takin’ names, Mr. Downes.
