Crosspoint Christian has achieved the lofty heights Coupeville wants to reach.
The Wildcats are a longstanding girls’ soccer power, with three state titles and a pair of 3rd place finishes to their credit.
So, while the very-young Wolves wanted a win Saturday in Bremerton, the fact they played their hosts almost even in a 1-0 loss while missing key starters, is a huge positive.
“Tough back and forth game,” said Coupeville assistant coach Jerry Helm. “Lot of good lessons and take aways, had our opportunities, just couldn’t find the net.”
The non-conference loss drops CHS to 3-3-2 on the season, while Crosspoint gets to 6-2, and now Jasmine Ader’s band of plucky pitch warriors turns their attention back to conference competition.
Coupeville hosts Lopez Island Monday at 3:00 PM, kicking off the second half of games in Northwest 2B/1B League play, and it will be a prime opportunity for some sweet revenge.
The Wolves and Lobos battled to a 2-2 tie in the season opener.
A win at Mickey Clark Field would boost Coupeville’s run at snagging a playoff berth in just its second season back after the program was shut down two years due to a lack of players.
Now the Wolves have a deep roster, anchored by a substantial amount of 8th and 9th graders, and are looking to keep the positive vibes flowing.
