A big win and a close loss.
It was a split decision for the Coupeville High School volleyball squads Wednesday night on Orcas Island, with the Wolf varsity sweeping the host Vikings, while the JV pushed their hosts to the limit before falling.
Scout Smith’s varsity spikers started strong and finished determined, holding on for a 25-15, 25-21, 27-25 victory.
That lifts them to 5-2 in Northwest 2B/1B League action, 5-5 overall.
Meanwhile Alita Blouin’s young guns came dangerously close to toppling the Vikings, who escaped with a 25-21, 25-22 win in the JV bout.
The loss drops Coupeville’s second team to 3-4 in conference action, 3-7 overall.

Both Wolf teams return to action with back-to-back home games Friday and Saturday.
Up first is a league battle with Mount Vernon Christian on a night when the volleyball teams are holding a Coupeville vs. Cancer fundraiser to benefit WhidbeyHealth Cancer Care.
JV tips at 5:00 PM, with varsity at 6:30.
The next day, the Wolves play host to non-conference foe East Jefferson, with start times of 1:00 and 2:30.
