It was a night for battles of all kinds.
On the court, the Coupeville High School varsity volleyball squad pushed high-flying Mount Vernon Christian to four sets before falling 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 25-15.
Meanwhile, off the floor, the Wolves joined with fans, family members, and WhidbeyHealth to put on a Coupeville vs. Cancer fundraiser to call attention to and raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
The loss, coming to a MVC team that sits at 12-1 on the season, drops CHS to 5-3 in Northwest 2B/1B League action, 5-6 overall.
Scout Smith’s spikers are in third place in the NWL, trailing just Darrington (5-0) and the ‘Canes (6-1), and currently hold the #2 spot among 2B schools, with the undefeated 1B Loggers primed to go their own way come the postseason.
Coupeville has four regular season matches left, with conference tilts against La Conner October 20 and Friday Harbor October 27.
In addition, the Wolves host non-league rivals East Jefferson Saturday (2:30 tip) and Forks on October 23.
