The late-season shuffle continues.
With playoff spots being finalized, the Coupeville High School boys’ soccer squad has seen its regular season finale moved up a day.
The Wolves now host two-time defending state champ Orcas Island Tuesday, October 27 at 4:00 PM, instead of October 28, as originally slated.
That game is also Senior Night for a trio of CHS players — Solomon Rudat, Sage Arends, and Sam Richards — who will be honored at halftime.
Coupeville, which is 5-2-1 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 8-3-1 overall, currently sits in third place in the 10-team conference, and has clinched a district playoff berth.
But depending on how the final week of the regular season plays out, the Wolves could finish third, fourth, or fifth, or in a tie for one of those slots.
The difference between being seed #4 and #5 is #4 starts districts already in the double-elimination portion of the tourney, while #5 begins with a loser-out game, but hosts it.
A look at the District 1/2/3/4 brackets, which are partially filled in at the moment with schools which have locked in their spots:
If there is a deadlock for the #4 slot, Coupeville hosts a tie-breaker game Thursday at 2:00 PM.
However, if you want to get diabolical, there is a (very remote chance) of a three-way tie for the #3 seed, if everything on this list happens in the next week:
Coupeville ties with Orcas (16 current points + 1 new point).
Providence Classical Christian ties with both La Conner and Cedar Park Christian (15 + 2).
Friday Harbor gets a win and a tie, in any order, against CPC and Mount Vernon Christian (13 + 4 points).
What then??
That is the $64,000 question, to which Coupeville Athletic Director Willie Smith offered the following response while laughing:
“Just for sending this you are now cursed with a million fleas in your armpits!”
