The spirit of The Wolf gazes approvingly as McKayla Bailey powers to the hoop for a layup. (John Fisken photo)
By now, pretty much anyone who has attended a Coupeville High School or Middle School athletic contest has seen John Fisken at work.
The Navy veteran and rabid University of Washington fan is a professional photographer and he snaps photos at events up and down the Island and sells his pics through cascadeathletics.com and several other outlets.
Being a generous person (and a fellow freedom fighter against the ever-encroaching Canadian media monster that is Sound Publishing/Black Press) he allows me to run some of his photos.
It’s a two-way street. It’s great for me, and it, hopefully, directs eyeballs towards the links where his work resides.
And, when you buy from him, it also helps Coupeville High School seniors.
Fisken, who has already given out scholarships to Oak Harbor High School students in the past, will award his first CHS scholarship(s) this spring. The money to be bestowed represents half of all sales from CHS and CMS-related events.
As of Nov. 30, $693.20 had been raised from 18 orders, with the scholarship fund sitting at $346. If it goes above $600, Fisken is considering splitting it into two awards.
So, remember that as we head into basketball season.
While you can snatch pictures off of Coupeville Sports or Facebook for free (since Fisken has allowed me to disburse those pics), consider buying some, as well.
I run but a small portion of what he actually shot, and, if your son or daughter is wearing a Wolf uniform, there is a very good chance their images will be caught by Fisken.
When you buy, you support his efforts, and you support the efforts of CHS student athletes as they prepare to head off to college.
So, now you know and knowing is half the battle.
The other half of the battle involves reaching into your wallet.
