Wolf cheer squad pumps up the volume!!

They are here, and they will dance.

Jumping into a new season, 15 Coupeville High School girls have made the transition from the fall cheer squad to the winter team.

Led by coach Cheridan Eck, the now much-warmer Wolves (having moved from the frosty football field into the CHS gymnasium for basketball games) have also busted out a lot more dance moves.

While they’re on a temporary vacation right now, with winter break kicking off yesterday with the brief smattering of snow to hit town, the Wolf cheerleaders will return Friday, Jan. 3, when hoops play comes back.

La Conner comes to town that day for a b-ball doubleheader, with the boys tipping off at 5 PM and the girls scheduled for 6:45.

One ticket, two floor shows!!

Performing during both games as Coupeville and South Whidbey waged a basketball doubleheader, the Wolf cheerleaders stayed loud, proud and peppy for close to four hours.

Plus, they put on not one, but two Christmas-inspired halftime performances.

Capturing a slice of their hard work was photo guy John Fisken, who delivered the pics above unto Wolf Nation.

You’re nothing without your rooting section.

Therefore, it’s a good thing the Coupeville High School basketball squads have a fair amount of people backing them, from the always epically-sized Wolf cheer squad to the folks working the stat table and concessions and on to the die-hard fans.

A new basketball season debuted Friday night, and with it came a new Wolf mascot.

Officially retiring the old costume, CHS football star Brett Arnold debuted the new look, appearing at halftime to dance along with the CHS cheerleaders.

It was the end of one brilliant career and the start of another one Thursday night.

Coupeville High School cheer coach Sylvia Arnold bid farewell to the program she had led for 20 seasons, while frosh Kiara Mercedes became the first ninth-grader to ever be voted the Wolf Award by her teammates.

Other award winners included senior Shelby Hall (Most Improved) and juniors Destiny Bitting (Coach’s Award), Amanda Foley (Most Improved), Ciera St Onge (Coach’s Award) and Camilla Rische (Spirit Award).
