Rain or shine, the tribute went on.

Oak Harbor High School’s Wildcat Memorial Stadium hosted a Veteran’s Day ceremony Thursday, and Naval alumni John Fisken was on hand to document the event.

The Few … The Proud … The Wolves.

Coupeville High School alumni Jonathan Partida has made the jump from one pack to another, graduating from Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego.

The 2020 CHS grad, who played multiple sports during his time at the school, now goes into infantry training.

During his time as a Wolf, Partida was part of a unique class which lost many of the traditional senior class events, as the country went through the beginning of the pandemic.

Before COVID seeped into everyday life, he was part of the first CHS football team to post a winning record since 2005.

A receiver and defensive back, Jonathan was joined on the team by younger brother Kevin.

News of Partida’s rise as a Marine has brought joy to family and friends.

“I couldn’t be more proud of him if it was my own son,” said Coupeville Middle School soccer coach Reese Cernick.

His wife, Michelle, couldn’t agree more.

Jonathan and (my son) Chris were best friends and Jonathan is like an adopted son to us,” she said.

“We love him and are so grateful to have him in our life.”

From Wolf to Defender.

Coupeville High School grad Seth Weatherford joined the ranks of those “on the wall” Wednesday, officially graduating from the United States Air Force Security Forces Academy.

The USAF SF operates as the primary law enforcement within the Air Force, and is now also connected with the new U.S. Space Force.

Weatherford, a 2020 Coupeville High School grad, was an athlete, scholar, and thespian during his time in Cow Town.

He played baseball for the Wolves, appearing in a mix of varsity and JV games for coaches Chris Smith and Mike Etzell.

Unfortunately, Weatherford and teammates lost their senior season when the COVID-19 pandemic brought a hold to sports last spring.

Earlier in his school career he was part of the Coupeville Middle School Theatre Troupe’s production of Stocking Stuffers, under the direction of Peg Tennant.

Mary Conlisk

Some positive news out of Coupeville, as a former Wolf completes the first leg of her military journey.

From mom Dawnelle Conlisk:

Coupeville High School 2013 grad Mary”Beth” Conlisk graduated from the Air Force Security Forces today. She received her police badge.

It’s a different world and things have really changed.

No family allowed, no leave to come home and visit.

But we can’t get stuck on all of that.

Instead, we’re focusing on the accomplishments of today.

Eight weeks of basic training and 13 weeks of tech school.

She did it, she completed in and she is defending all of us.

She started this journey in October 2019, when life was “normal.”

Receiving letters along the way from Mrs. (Deb) Sherman’s 5th grade class.

She really wanted to come meet this amazing class in her uniform while she was supposed to be home for a month, before heading to her first duty station.

I can’t thank these 5th graders enough for keeping her spirits up. Such an awesome surprise for her.

Today I may not have been able to give her the hug I was dreaming of and taking a gazillion pictures.

But I can still celebrate and let her know we are totally behind her and cheering her on.

Congratulations, Airman Conlisk!
