Making its home debut in grand style Saturday afternoon, the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad pulled off a vintage David vs. Goliath win.
With 8th grade ace Lucy Schisel rattling home her first two goals as a Wolf, CHS shocked visiting Mariner 2-1 in a game where student body size had nothing to do with the result.
The Marauders, who rep a 4A school, share their school hallways with 1,559 students, while Coupeville seats just 192, landing them smack-dab in the 2B classification for sports.
Head out to the pitch and none of that mattered Saturday, as the Wolves improved to 1-0-1 on the young season, while dropping their large school non-conference foe to 0-2.

Coupeville, which is playing right now without the injured Tamsin Ward, who led the team with 15 goals last season, has gotten strong work from everyone on the roster.
Lyla Grose and Hazel Goodman scored in the team’s opener, a tie with Northwest 2B/1B League rival Lopez Island, while Finley Helm has stood tall in goal and Lillian Ketterling anchors the team as its serene captain.
Jasmine Ader’s squad has two home games on the schedule next week, with the Wolves hosting Providence Classical Christian Wednesday and Orcas Island Friday.
The first of those contests kicks off at 6:00 PM, the second at 4:00, and admission is free for both.
