Some of my earliest advertisers — supporting Coupeville Sports since 2012.

You help me pay rent, I help you get your business out in front of readers!

With the holiday season upon us, I’m offering a 2-for-1 advertising special through Dec. 31.

Normally, if you give me $100, I give you an ad here on Coupeville Sports, and it’s good for the life of the site.

Which means, those who got in on the ground floor back in August, 2012 have gotten quite a sweet deal.

The lifetime guarantee is still in place, but between now and December 31, if you ante up that $100, you get ads on two blogs, as I’m selling advertising on Flat Butt Film Fest for the first time.

What’s FBFF, you ask?

It’s a return to my video store glory days, where I pump out 100-word reviews of films I like.

I publish five a day, every day — quick bites, with no negative reviews to waste your time.

You can check it out here:

Flat Butt Film Fest – One movie, 100 words

So, $100 gets you ads on both blogs, or, if you already have an ad on Coupeville Sports, $50 lets you get in on the ground floor of Flat Butt Film Fest.

On both blogs, the ads run down the right side of the page on a computer, while camping out beneath the five stories on the main page if you’re using a phone.

If you have a web site, I link to it, so when readers click your ad, they go straight to your site.

Where each blog currently sits:

Coupeville Sports
8 years, 4 months of existence
7,991 stories published

Flat Butt Film Fest
3.5 months
532 stories published

Prairie legend Emma Smith, back in her days as a Coupeville volleyball ace. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Smith, right next to the helmet of the main football player, is front and center in the latest Montana State University football advertising blitz.

From Cow Town to Bozeman, Emma Smith is still in the spotlight.

The former Coupeville High School athlete, who went to state in both volleyball and track and field, is currently a freshman at Montana State University.

While there, she spent a chunk of her fall attending Bobcat football games, and now a photo featuring her and other MSU students is at the heart of the gridiron program’s latest advertising blitz.

The poster seen above popped up on Twitter Wednesday, quickly setting the internet abuzz.

Smith, who was a First-Team All-Conference pick as a hard-hitting volleyball spiker during her CHS days, is part of one of Coupeville’s strongest athletic dynasties.

Her branch of the Smith family includes aunt Joli, a three-sport supernova during my days writing at the Whidbey News-Times, and uncle Todd, an All-Conference pick on both sides of the ball for the ’90 CHS football team, the only undefeated squad in program history.

And then there’s grandpa Steve, one of the most physically-gifted athletes the town has ever witnessed.

Today, though, the spotlight is firmly on Emma, no matter what town she’s currently calling home.

Will “The Thrill” Butela (right) with comedy partner in crime Mike Duke.

So, apparently Videoville was a breeding ground for Hollywood all those years.

At this point, half the people who I once slung videos with — and by slung I mean we actually threw VHS tapes at each other on more than one occasion — are making it big in the entertainment biz.

Mason Hughes is Drew Barrymore’s right hand man, and an Instagram star in his own right, while Will “The Thrill” Butela continues to surface in ads every time I turn around.

Most times he’s working with his partner in crime, fellow Coupeville High School grad Mike Duke (who, for reasons unknown, shockingly did NOT work behind the video store counter), but in the ad for Peoples Bank below he’s working his sardonic magic solo.

Go. Stop reading. Watch Will, the greatest soccer goalie in CHS history (historical truth, son!), do what Will does.

It’s two-and-a-half minutes of finely-spun comedy gold, courtesy a guy who I once watched shotgun an entire batch of frozen mocha Granita drink, while Mason ran around behind us, screaming about his missing car … which Will had secretly relocated.

One of the best days ever.

Currently the 679,065th best seller on Amazon.

We’re less than two months away from the five-year anniversary of Coupeville Sports.

During that time, all of us, working together, have produced 5,359 articles, published a book, erected a Wall of Fame in the CHS gym honoring titles won by Wolf athletes and teams from 1900-2017, and brought the school’s football record board up to date.

I say all of us, because while I am doing the writing (and a lot of the agitating), none of this would be accomplished without you.

The readers. The advertisers. The supporters.

No one is ever going to get rich writing about small town sports.

My dream of an indoor/outdoor swimming pool with a waterfall in the middle will probably have to wait.

But I have been able to stay ahead of my very limited bills, and stay away from “real” work for the past two years.

My fingers thank you. My back thanks you. I thank you.

Not having to wash dishes allowed me the chance to do the research necessary for the Wall of Fame and the football board, giving me time I wouldn’t have had if I was still balancing writing with a day-to-day job.

Going forward, I’d like to do more research, to maybe get basketball its own record board, so the sport which holds the key to the CHS gym could be on an equal footing with volleyball, football and track.

Then, of course, there’s softball, baseball, soccer and tennis, which I’m sure would like their own boards, as well.

To do any of that, to put in research time, to get the backing of those in charge to add new boards, to, frankly, be a (semi-pleasant) pain in the tush, I need your help.

How, you ask?

Well, every time someone gives me info on CHS sports history, it helps.

Every time someone says “Good job,” it helps.

Every time someone thinks twice about throwing rotten tomatoes at me (even when I write something they don’t appreciate), it helps.

But, most of all, a little financial help goes a LONG way.

There are three ways to keep the Coupeville Sports machine rollin’ along.

Donations:

Whether it’s a one-time gift or you like to make it rain on a regular basis, this is the lifeblood of the poor but plucky writer.

You can hit the donate button which sits conveniently at the top of the blog, or, if you don’t like PayPal, my mailing address is 165 N. Sherman, Coupeville, WA 98239.

Or slip something into my pocket at a game. Well, maybe not your discarded candy wrappers…

Advertising:

I’m the best deal in town — $100 gets you an ad for the life of the site.

Ads run down the right side of Coupeville Sports and when readers click on them, it shoots them to your website or Facebook page.

Don’t have either one? No worries. I can link your ad to a page on my blog where I make your business sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Buy my book:

Hop over to Amazon —  https://www.amazon.com/dp/1547255544/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497205922&sr=8-1&keywords=David+Svien — or buy one from me in person (as soon as I get more copies in).

Christmas gifts, man, Christmas gifts. Gotta be thinking ahead.
