Emily Rains plots your destruction. (Julie Wheat photos)

Ace, ace, in your face.

Wolf heavy hitters Emma Leavitt and Emily Rains were on point Thursday in Darrington, each firing off 10 unhittable serves, and a whole lot of other ones where the return ended up in the bleachers.

Powered by the wham-bam sisters, and a team-wide 26 aces, the Coupeville High School JV volleyball squad cruised to its third win in its last four matches.

Sweeping the host Loggers off the floor to a 25-18, 25-6, 25-12 tune, Alita Blouin’s spikers get to 3-3 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 3-6 overall.

The afternoon began with a crack of thunder, as Leavitt savaged Darrington with a serve that screamed past the defenders, and ended on another point-winning laser off the arm of Olivia Martin.

In between those titanic blows the Wolves offered their rivals very few opportunities to stage long rallies.

Coupeville was in control from start to finish, jumping out to staggering leads in the first two sets.

Riding a run of 10 straight points on her serve from Rains, the Wolves built a 13-1 margin in the opening frame, gave some points back, then closed things out with another run of strong serves from the Wolf freshman.

Rains also had a beautiful tip winner to blunt a Darrington rally, while Addison Jacobson whacked a spike off the backline to keep everyone honest.

Annabelle Cundiff brings the thunder and the lightning.

If set #1 was a bit of a romp, most of the time at least, set #2 was a full-on bushwacking.

Leavitt torched the Loggers for eight points at the service stripe, before Rains added another run of six straight winners as Coupeville went up 16-1.

This time the Wolves gave very little back, with Martin, Scarlett Spencer, and Jacobson joining the duo in controlling things on their serve.

While the match was already decided in favor of the visitors, the Wolves continued to carve up the Loggers in a third set played to get everyone valuable floor time.

Spencer came flying in from the side to deliver a pair of tip winners, while Annabelle Cundiff inherited the role of assassin, putting together a six-point run at the service stripe to bust things open.

Sabrina Judnich chipped in with hustle plays, Amira Anunciado and Hannah Roberts provided strong vocal support to their teammates, and Martin closed things out with a final burst of liquid fire, sending the Loggers back to their rooms without supper or a win.

Thursday stats:

Annabelle Cundiff — 3 aces
Addison Jacobson — 3 kills
Emma Leavitt — 1 dig, 5 assists, 10 aces
Olivia Martin — 1 kill, 4 digs, 2 aces
Emily Rains — 2 kills, 1 dig, 10 aces

Winner, winner, they get to sit on a ferry for the rest of the night.

At least the journey back from Friday Harbor is likely to be a joyous one Wednesday night for the Coupeville High School JV volleyball squad, after the Wolves claimed their first victory of the season.

Holding off the pesky Wolverines (and their board operator, who lost control of the score more than once) 26-24, 25-23, Alita Blouin’s spikers improve to 1-2 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 1-5 overall.

Coupeville’s second squad, which has come close almost every time out, gets a chance to make it back-to-back celebrations when it hosts Concrete Thursday in Cow Town.

The young Wolves will be riding a high when they take the floor against the Lions, having put together their most complete performance of the season in a rival’s gym.

CHS fought back from an early deficit Wednesday, rallying behind tip winners from Emma Leavitt and Cassandra Powers, before getting a big burst at the service stripe from Olivia Martin.

The fired-up Wolf libero peppered Friday Harbor, running off five straight points on her serve to stake the Wolves to a 15-11 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Not that the Wolverines didn’t make a serious play to stage their own comeback, finally forcing a tie at 21-21.

But a strong serve off the fingertips of Amira Anunciado, followed by Leavitt slashing a winner while soaring towards the net from the left side, was the answer.

As was a tooth-rattling ace from Powers at set point, the ball skidding away from the would-be receiver.

With the JV teams playing second, thanks to the need for a possible rush out the door to snag the last ferry out of town, action stayed hot ‘n furious in the second frame.

Friday Harbor surged ahead, Wolf freshman Emily Rains corrected things with a stellar run on her serve, and the teams battled through 10 ties.

Powers and Leavitt continued to come up with big-time plays, whether it was the former flicking deep balls that caught the back line, or the latter leaning way back to redirect a rapidly dropping ball for an emphatic kill.

Also coming up big was Scarlett Spencer, making a great save to turn a potential Friday Harbor point into a surprise Coupeville winner.

With the score knotted at 23-23, the Wolves dug deep, with Anunciado crushing a service ace followed by Powers ending things with one final ear-popping spike winner.

Coupeville got contributions from everyone on the roster, with Annabelle Cundiff and Addison Jacobson chipping in to the on-floor performance and Sabrina Judnich and Hannah Roberts bringing big emotional support from the bench.

Wednesday stats:

Amira Anunciado — 1 ace
Addison Jacobson — 1 kill, 1 dig
Emma Leavitt — 6 kills, 3 digs, 8 assists, 2 aces
Olivia Martin — 3 digs, 1 ace
Cassandra Powers — 7 kills, 6 assists, 5 aces
Emily Rains — 3 kills, 4 digs, 6 aces
Scarlett Spencer — 4 digs

Olivia Martin and associates spent most of Thursday tearing around the basepaths. (Jackie Saia photos)

They were thunderstruck.

While prairie skies were largely clear and blue Thursday afternoon, the Coupeville High School softball squad rained down holy terror on visiting Concrete.

Whacking 27 hits, including inside the park home runs from Sydney Van Dyke and Emily Rains, the Wolves decimated the Lions 28-0 in a game which could have been 100-0 if CHS coach Aaron Lucero had been in a mood.

Instead, the diamond sage spent part of his day playing dodgeball as his catcher, Teagan Calkins, drilled hot shot after hot shot at him in the third base coaching box, every crack of her bat causing him to both grin and possibly suffer heart palpitations.

“Try and dodge this, Aaron!”

With the win, the Wolves get to 8-0 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 13-1 overall.

Up next is a non-conference rumble Friday at home against South Whidbey, before next week brings a two-game set with Orcas Island in which CHS can clinch a conference crown.

First up though was Concrete, a team building for a better tomorrow, but not remotely ready yet to slow down the freight train wearing red and black.

The Wolves, who won the first meeting between the teams 17-1, put this go-around on ice in the flick of a wrist.

CHS hurler Adeline Maynes struck out the first three hitters she faced, then she and her teammates busted out the bats and did their best to explode a few softballs.

Coupeville pushed 12 runs across in the bottom of the first, with 12 of their first 13 hitters reaching base.

The only one not to was still super-efficient, as Chelsi Stevens delivered an RBI groundout following a two-run double from Calkins.

Next at-bat, same inning, Stevens flexed her biceps and crushed a two-run triple to deep left field, proving she can kill you in a multitude of ways.

In between those at-bats, Coupeville picked up RBI-rich hits from Maynes, Zariyah Allen, and Haylee Armstrong, before Sydney Van Dyke launched a solo shot to left, tearing around the bags and sliding under the tag to complete her home run trot.

Everyone was hitting, with the Wolves tacking on seven more runs in the second, taking a breather in a scoreless third, then piling up nine more in the fourth.

In the second, five straight singles kept the runners moving base to base, before Maynes lofted a resounding triple to left to cap things.

Jump to the fourth and it was prime time for the Wolf reserves, as they picked up right where the starters had left off.

Emily Rains, swinging a hot stick and hollering as she tore around the basepaths, came off the bench to wallop an inside the park homer to lead off the inning, before coming back around later in the frame to mash a three-run double while almost overrunning the girl in front of her.

Also coming up big were Zayne Roos, zipping a two-run single into the gap, and Ari Vinson, swatting an RBI double to left.

While 13 of 16 Wolves collected a base hit, Maynes and Armstrong combined to virtually shut down Concrete’s offense. The former whiffed seven of the 10 batters she faced, while the latter came in to toss two scoreless innings of relief.

Even when the Lions did make contact, Coupeville had an answer, with Emma Leavitt collecting the web gem of the day by making a smooth snag on a liner to left while on the run.

Thursday stats:

Zariyah Allen — One single, one walk
Haylee Armstrong — Two singles, one double
Teagan Calkins — Three singles, one double, one walk
Emma Cushman — Two singles
Emma Leavitt — One single, one walk

Adeline Maynes — One single, one triple, one walk
Allie Powers — One single
Emily Rains — One double, one home run
