Burn ban be gone

Gentlemen, get your matches ready.

Island County Sheriff Rick Felici, who doubles as the Fire Marshal, is allowing us to once again craft responsible mounds o’ flame.

Due to “the increase in fuel moisture levels and a return to more typical seasonal weather patterns,” the county burn ban vanishes at midnight, Friday, October 2.

All yard debris and land-clearing burning require a permit where open burning is allowed, with permits issued through the Island County Health Department.

To obtain a verbal permit for residential fires less than four feet in diameter, call (360) 240-5526 or (360) 428-1617, EXT 4.

For a written permit for fires over four feet in diameter, call (360) 679-7350 (North and Central Whidbey), (360) 321-5111, EXT 7350 (South Whidbey), or (360) 387-3443, EXT 228 (Camano Island).

Recreational fires less than three feet in diameter and two feet high do not require a permit.

To Catch a Jackass

Local authorities are interested in talking to the person responsible for a nasty hit and run accident.

The driver of the black car seen in the photo was allegedly speeding on West Beach Road Monday around 6 PM, then blew through a stop sign at Libby Road, colliding with another car.

The driver and a passenger then fled the scene on foot.

The car they hit suffered extensive damage, and both occupants were injured.

One suffered a fractured vertebrae and chest contusions, while the other has chest contusions and burns on her arms from the car’s airbags deploying.

Coupeville’s Planning Director missing (UPDATE: found safe)

A search is on for Coupeville’s Planning Director, who has been missing since the morning of June 23.

Owen Dennison has worked for the town since 2016.

The press release from the Marshal’s Office:

 

The Coupeville Marshals Office is asking the public’s help locating 62-year old Owen Dennison.

Owen was last seen on the morning of June 23, 2020, in Coupeville.

His cell phone was pinged and was located in his office along with several personal belongings.

Owen’s family says that it is abnormal for him not to return home and are worried about his welfare.

Owen is 5’7″ 155 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

He may be driving a black 2013 Ford Focus hatchback, Washington license plate ALM5473.

Anyone with information regarding Owen is asked to contact Marshal Shawn Warwick via the ICOM dispatch center at 360-679-9567 or via e-mail at tips@islandcountywa.gov.

 

UPDATE (6/24 at 5:55 PM):

Family provided a more recent photo and believe Dennison may have been headed to the Rialto Beach area.

 

UPDATE (6/24 at 7:34 PM):

Sheriff’s Office reports Owen has been found safe and is with his family.

Let’s catch a coward!!

If you know something, call or email today.

If the community works together, the little coward who killed a dog in Oak Harbor Monday will be caught and punished.

Let’s not be too gentle here — throwing a dog out of a moving vehicle, leading to that animal being hit by multiple vehicles and having to be euthanized — means you’re a scumbag.

There is no explanation which will change my opinion.

If you disagree, go blow it out your ass and stop reading Coupeville Sports. You won’t be missed.

Personally, I would prefer the guilty party be tossed out of a moving vehicle themselves.

If you are of the 99.9% of the world which is rightfully pissed off at this, please read the info in the picture above.

And, if you know anything, drop a dime.

Whether you do it for the money or because you’re a good person, just do it.
