“Soccer season is on its way!!”
The start of the high school pitch season is still a ways off, but, as soccer mom Janine Bundy can attest to, the sport is truly year round.
“Soccer never ends for these guys,” she said. “They played at a college deal in the rain and hail.”
Regardless of the fact we’re still technically in winter — though the weather is cooperating more than in some previous years — guys in shorts and cleats are hard at work.
Among them are Coupeville High School juniors Zane Bundy and Abraham Leyva, who are currently playing in the President’s Cup with their select soccer squad.
Over the weekend they and their teammates fought to a pair of hard-earned ties against top-level competition.
Leyva connected on a goal Saturday, while Bundy has been his usual hard-charging bundle of electric highlights.
Rain or shine, hail or summer heat, it’s the pitch life for them, and it’s a good life.
