Stats are not just for football.

Every week we plop down an updated list for Coupeville High School football, and then, boom, this afternoon I finally notice the Wolf spikers have stats on MaxPreps as well.

So, here you go, with two caveats.

One, it’s varsity only (that’s all I have), and two, if you disagree with your totals, talk to your coaches.

I’m just relaying the stats, not recording them.

Zane Bundy

Zane Bundy has kicked four field goals this season, which is tied for the most by a 1A player. (John Fisken photo)

OK, before you all start whining, I know these aren’t 100% correct.

For some reason, special teams is incomplete this week, as both the punting and return totals from Friday’s game against Chimacum weren’t entered on MaxPreps.com by the Coupeville High School coaches.

So, if your name is say, Clay Reilly or Wiley Hesselgrave or Hunter Smith, you may have something to discuss with the higher-ups at the next team meeting.

Other than that, though, we’re pretty close.

The big highlight is Smith claiming the single season record for interceptions with seven. Or, at least, the record from the past 15 years or so.

Snatching three more picks Friday, he slipped past Josh Bayne, who netted six INTs a year ago.

Celebrate the record, Hunter, go add to it in the remaining games, and don’t think about the fact that one day we may finally retrieve all of the lost CHS sports records and discover Bayne never really owned the record.

Also of note is Wolf kicker Zane Bundy moving up into a third-place tie for most field goals kicked this season by a Washington state football player.

Notching his fourth of the season Friday, he’s tied for the lead in 1A with Port Townsend’s Gerry Coker, and they sit one field goal behind Bryce Bendixen of 4A Bellarmine Prep.

Jack Crane of 4A Sammamish is way out in front with 11.

Clay Reilly is movin’ on up.

Riding a 70-yard boot in Friday’s game against Port Townsend, the Coupeville High School junior is now the third most-proficient punter among 1A kickers whose coaches stay on top of their stats.

Reilly is averaging 32.6 yards per punt, which puts him hot on the heels of Jake Sargeant of Klahowya (34.8) and David Postma of Bellevue Christian (33.9).

His footwork highlights our weekly look at CHS football stats, as reported to MaxPreps by Wolf coaches.

Other guys making moves include Jacob Martin, who took over the team lead in fumble recoveries and Ty Eck, who rode a nine-tackle performance Friday to move within an inch of second-place in that category.

Jacob Martin's name appears in eight stats categories, tied with Hunter Smith for second-most on the team.

Jacob Martin’s name appears in eight stats categories, tied with Hunter Smith for second-most on the team, trailing just Wiley Hesselgrave.

One of Josh Bayne’s records is under siege.

A year after he capped his senior football season at Coupeville High School with a school-record six interceptions, that mark could be eclipsed.

With two more interceptions Friday against Klahowya, Wolf sophomore Hunter Smith now has four on the year, and the season is only halfway done.

If he stays healthy, Smith still has four regular season games to play, and then a guarantee of at least one more after that.

Either Coupeville will catch the Eagles for the #2 playoff spot out of the 1A Olympic League, or it would have a crossover game in week 10 against another squad that missed the postseason.

Smith’s pursuit of the pick record highlights our weekly look at CHS gridiron stats.

Others making stat sheet moves include Uriel Liquidano, who blocked a kick Friday, and Zane Bundy, who took over the team scoring lead with a pair of field goals and a PAT.

Plus, a big shout-out to Wiley Hesselgrave, who has slapped his name down in 11 categories, most of any Wolf this season.

As always, the stats below are taken from MaxPreps.com, where they were deposited by the Wolf coaching staff.

Senior Jordan Ford is piling up stats on both sides of the ball.

Stats never stay the same.

While Friday’s game — a 52-0 loss to Port Townsend, the 8th-ranked team in 1A — didn’t allow for the Coupeville High School football squad to make big additions, there were some changes.
