It’s time to get dusty.

Pull down those boxes from the attic, venture into the darkest regions of the cellar.

If you have photos from Coupeville’s sporting past, or programs, stat sheets, newspaper clippings or anything of the like, I would love to know about it.

There is no magic room at CHS with the history of this town’s sports accomplishments filed neatly inside.

The only way to shine a spotlight on those who came before, to tell their stories and remember their accomplishments, is with a lot of help.

I’ve been doing my lil’ Coupeville Sports Hall o’ Fame for a year straight now, and I am well aware a lot of very worthy names have not entered those hallowed digital walls.

Which is where you come in.

You need to give me some info, a guiding shove down the path, some photographic proof that your grandparents once walked tall.

I’m happy to run as much historical stuff as possible, especially during the slow summer days.

I would be thrilled to induct a lot more genuinely worthy athletes, coaches and supporters into the Hall.

But, to do so, I need your help.

I need what’s in your attics and your cellars.

So start looking, folks.

Best Throwback Thursday photo ... ever? Possibly.

Best Throwback Thursday photo … ever? Possibly.

We’re back, to throw it back.

After a fairly long absence, today sees the return (at least for the moment) of Throwback Thursday, thanks to a great photo courtesy of Kristin Hurlburt.

With Coupeville High School’s Class of 2016 having graduated this past Friday, moms were busy posting photos, new and old, all over the social media landscape.

None was as note-perfect as the second photo up top, however.

Capturing future Wolf stars Wiley Hesselgrave and Sylvia Hurlburt back in their younger days, it’s worthy of a shout-out.

Sylvia would go on to grow up into a state meet medal-winning track sensation, a cheer captain and a dancer supreme.

Wiley would get a little bit taller and a little bit tougher and eventually be named the CHS Male Athlete of the Year for his work on the gridiron and the hard-wood.

But their personalities were already in place when our throwback photo was snapped.

Of that, there’s no doubt.

This photo of the 1963 Coupeville HS football squad includes my landlord, Jack Sell (#73). (Photo courtesy Paul Messner)

So, does this mean I don’t have to pay rent next month?!?!

Yeah, probably not, but it is proof that my landlord here at Coupeville Sports HQ was once a Wolf athlete himself.

I’ve heard some of the tales from Jack Sell’s past, in the days when he was an undersized but over-achieving gridiron giant.

But here we see the legend that was, in bold black and white, thanks to former teammate Paul Messner, who dug it out of the archives.

Anyone else have stuff like this?

Send it my way (davidsvien@hotmail.com or find me on Facebook), as we reclaim Cow Town sports history one tidbit at a time.

Hailey Hammer

Hailey Hammer is generally in a good mood.

The Coupeville High School senior, a three-sport star since the first day she stepped foot into the school, is pretty easy-going and laid-back. She tends to smile, a lot.

But not in this early photo, where she is about one step from taking the camera away and wrapping it around the paparazzi’s head.

Good thing she’s chilled out since then.

These days, as she prepares for one final run through her sports (volleyball, basketball, softball) at CHS, Hammer has her smile back.

The only ones frowning will be opponents as they get crunched by the power-hittin’ Wolf wonder.

Ashlyn (left) and Mattea, a bit older but still just as devoted to each other.

To appreciate the end of the journey, some times you need to take a moment to look back at where it began.

These days, sisters Ashlyn and Mattea Miller are a senior and sophomore, respectively, at Coupeville High School.

Both are strong athletes (Ashlyn juggles cheer and track while Mattea stays busy with soccer, basketball and track) and superb people who remain very devoted to each other.

In the classic photo above Ashlyn is about to head out the door for her first day in her journey through the school life.

Jump forward a decade-plus and when she heads out the door this Tuesday, it will be to start her final year of high school.

But, one thing remains the same.

Regardless of their ages, their fashion choices or which school they’re attending, the Miller girls can always count on their biggest fan — each other.
