“Grizzled” hard-court vets Jazmine Franklin and McKenzie Bailey dug deep and found some third-set magic Monday, propelling themselves, and the Coupeville High School girls’ tennis squad, to a huge win over Port Angeles.
Pulling out a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win at second doubles, the rock-solid duo lifted the Wolves to a 4-3 victory, avenging an earlier-season loss to the 2A Roughriders.
Coupeville now sits at 7-3 on the season.
Wolf coach Ken Stange knew he could count on his veteran team captains when things got down and dirty.
“They found a way to pull it out,” he said. “They were clutch in the third set!”
