Chayse Van Velkinburgh didn’t spend too much time sitting on the couch this weekend.
The Coupeville Elementary School fifth grader delivered strong performances in two sports while bouncing between different towns.
When he was in Redmond, Van Velkinburgh played in a state soccer cup game, bashing several shots on goal while leading the rampage on offense.
Take him off the pitch, and rush him back to Mount Vernon, and he played in four basketball games at the Tulip Days Tournament.
Van Velkinburgh poured in 55 points, including 17 against Lummi Island in the day’s final matchup, helping spark his team to the 5th grade title.
Most of his team’s games were actually against 6th grade squads, as they played up after several 5th grade teams dropped out of the tourney.
