They’re too fast for the stat keepers.

Coupeville grads Mia Farris and Lyla Stuurmans are piling up the numbers for their college volleyball teams during the opening weeks of their sophomore seasons, though the number crunchers are often taking their sweet time posting updated stats.

But, as we hit the holiday, it appears both Whatcom College and Skagit Valley College have finally caught up. Mostly.

Because of an issue with uniform numbers, Stuurmans has seen her highlights credited to an injured teammate the past two matches, but we here at Obsessive Stats, Inc. are seemingly on top of things.

According to my numbers, Scott and Sarah’s eldest daughter has racked up 51 kills, two assists, 11 service aces, 84 digs, five solo blocks, 10 block assists, and 72 points for a Cardinals team sitting at 5-3.

Meanwhile, over at Whatcom, Farris, battling through her own injuries, continues to shine even when her body isn’t at 100%.

The two-time CHS Athlete of the Year winner has been a sparkplug for an Orcas squad which is 4-8 after playing a long tournament weekend with a limited roster.

Bouncing between positions, Fred and Susan’s youngest daughter has put up 27 kills, 14 assists, 25 aces, 140 digs, two solo blocks, one block assist, and 54.5 points.

The former Wolves, who both play in the Northwest Athletic Conference, are scheduled to face each other twice this season.

The first contest is set for October 7 at Whatcom, with the rematch at SVC going down October 30.
