Kyle King has still got that zing, running his way to awards near and far.
The Coupeville grad, a five-time state track and field champion during his Cow Town days, was honored September 15 at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, when he was tabbed as the Marine Corps 2025 Male Athlete of the Year.
Currently an artillery officer and branch head of Human Performance Branch, Training and Standards Division, Training and Education Command, King has been a member of the All-Marine Running Team for the last decade.
He’s a three-time winner of the Marine Corps Marathon, hitting the tape first at the fourth-biggest marathon in the US in 2022, 2024 and 2025.
King has had a busy September, running in the London Big Half where he finished 29th in a field of 17,876 runners.
Randy and Laurie’s middle child was the third-fastest American in the field and helped the All-Marine team beat its British rivals from both the Royal Navy and Royal Marines as part of the Warriors Across the Sea competition.
A 2008 CHS grad, King won state titles in the 3200 three straight years (2006-2008), added the 1600 crown in 2007, and ran a leg on a triumphant 4 x 400 relay unit in 2006.
He went on to run for two NCAA D-I schools – Eastern Washington University and the University of Oklahoma — and competed in the marathon at both the US Olympic Team Trials in Atlanta and the CISM Military World Games in China.
