It was short but sweet.
Limited to (almost) one set Tuesday night thanks to Friday Harbor needing to haul tail back to the ferry, the Coupeville High School JV volleyball squad beat the visiting Wolverines 23-17.
The victory, coming in the season finale for Alita Blouin’s spikers, lifts them to 6-4 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 7-8 overall.
The young Wolves finished the season on a torrid run, winning seven of their final 10 matches as they grew in confidence and jelled as a team.
Tuesday’s tilt barely happened, as Friday Harbor was seriously tardy after some transportation snafus, with the varsity match starting 45+ minutes late and being played first.
By the time the JV took the floor, they were being pushed hard by a 6:30 PM kill time but took advantage of what floor time they could.
Coupeville led, start to finish, with Emma Leavitt and Olivia Martin peppering nasty service aces, and Annabelle Cundiff slicing a winner while patrolling the net.
A strong run at the service line from Cassandra Powers pushed the lead out to 18-8, before Friday Harbor rallied a bit.
But just a bit, with Emily Rains launching a looping shot which split the defenders and skipped away for a winner, before Cundiff delivered another slicer for which the visitors had no answers.
