Mollie Bailey, the future of Wolf sports, would like to know someone out there will be ordering all the varsity letters she’s going to earn in the coming years.

Who’s gonna step up?

We’ve just rolled out of one school year, and are several months away from a new one, but that doesn’t mean things are totally quiet behind the scenes.

As Wolf athletes graduate, some parents fall off and others with younger kids rise to take their place, and now is a good time to think about helping make Coupeville High School athletics a success.

The school’s Booster Club, which keeps things humming year-round, has begun looking for people to fill a list of small, but important jobs.

In recent weeks they have used their Facebook page to put out the call for people interested in:

**Running the 50/50 raffles at home CHS football and basketball games

**Taking photos at games

**Ordering varsity letters and bars for teams at the end of seasons

**Ordering roses for Senior Night festivities

**Working as a membership coordinator for the club

**Helping with the scholarship committee, which hands out awards to Wolf senior student/athletes

Whether you have a son or daughter at CHS, or are just in the mood to help out cause you’re nice like that, now is the ideal time to get in touch with the booster club.

Yes, right now.

The Coupeville Booster Club, which helps make it possible for the boys and girls in red and black to ruin South Whidbey’s night from time to time (is there anything finer?), is having a half-price sale on memberships AS WE SPEAK.

So, at this point, you’ve already stopped reading and headed out the door to either the Cascade Insurance Agency or the Keystone Cafe, or you’ve jumped to their website http://coupevilleboosterclub.com/ or their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Coupeville-Booster-Club/83614917107?fref=ts to take advantage of the deal.

No? Do I need to send Caleb Valko and the boys around to the house to “discuss” matters? A few free cupcakes and they’ll do it, believe me.

Anyway, since you’re one of the good ones and want to help boost Coupeville, your only question is, what exactly am I boosting?

The hopes and dreams of young men and women, that’s what.

Well, and booster club members have also helped purchase:

Team uniforms
Varsity letters and emblems
Soccer nets
Team benches
Baseball bats, catcher’s gear, pitching machine
Softball bats, sliding trainer, pitching machine
High jump mat
Volleyball net system and cart
Tennis ball return
Drink system
Canopies
Scoreboards
Batting cages

Plus that whole hopes and dreams stuff too, so you’d have that going for you, which is nice.

This could be all yours. The car, that is. The driver and Homecoming royalty are not included in the purchase price. (Shelli Trumbull photo)

Things just got serious. Big time serious.

Former Coupeville High School track coach Larrie Ford— who is related to half the town and coached the other half — has upped the ante big-time in the “let’s donate to the Coupeville Booster Club Crab Feed Dinner and Auction” game.

The car you see in the photo above, in which Ford drives seniors Haley Marx and Luke Pelant in the Homecoming parade, is going up for bids Saturday night during the annual shindig at the Crockett Barn.

It’s a 1957 Porsche (kit) and minimum bid is $10,000. May I be the first to suggest that Crockett Barn owner Paula Spina would look snazzy driving around town in this automobile.

If the minimum can’t be met, the Booster Club will look for other creative ways to sell the car, but either way, it’s a huge boost to CHS sports and the booster club’s fund-raising efforts.

Ford is the father of Tony and David Ford. David Ford is married to Barbie Messner (who is Aimee Bishop and Christy Marti’s sister). Their parents are Paul (“Santa”) and Marilyn Messner.

So, they know a few people in town…

Not even Applebee’s could resist the siren call of Hammer Time!

Working in conjunction with the Coupeville Booster Club, the restaurant is honoring Wolf spiker Hailey Hammer as the fourth Star of the Week for the fall sports season, and Hammer’s name (reader board outside) and face (restaurant wall inside) will reign supreme for the next week or so.

Hammer, who helped spark CHS to two wins (and a narrow loss to unbeaten King’s) in its last four matches, follows in the award-carrying footsteps of netter Aaron Curtin, quarterback Josh Bayne and the Wolf girls’ soccer squad.

The sophomore middle blocker will help lead her team into district play this weekend, when Coupeville travels to Lynden for an eight-team double elimination tourney. The Wolves will open against Nooksack Valley, and four of the eight teams will earn bids to tri-districts.

“You heard me the first time, woman. I said I want this bucket filled with pancakes!!” (Shelli Trumbull photo)

Pancakes for everyone!

Just hours removed from the biggest football win of the season, Coupeville High School players, coaches and fans crowded into Applebee’s at the crack o’ dawn this morning for the Coupeville Booster Club’s Flapjack Fundraiser.

The money raised goes to help CHS athletics and the pancakes … well, the pancakes had an honorable death, filling the stomaches of the Island’s premier gridiron warriors.
