She was always a high achiever.

During her time in Coupeville, Tia Wurzrainer was a solid three-sport athlete and top student who could often be found hanging out at the family business, Christopher’s on Whidbey.

Now, Sebastian’s lil’ sis is a senior at Trinity College in Connecticut, and she’s still going above and beyond.

Her latest adventure is hiking 51.6 miles of the Appalachian Trail in less than 24 hours, as part of a fundraiser.

I could try and recap the whole thing, or simply point you in the direction of a story by a writer at the Trinity Tripod.

I choose door #2, so pop over to:

The prairie calls. (Sarah Kirkconnell photos)

A hikin’ she will go.

While I was busy burning stuff on her property — “I better not come back to cops sitting in my driveway asking why you’re using gas like our dad!!!” — my sister, Sarah, headed off Sunday to explore part of Whidbey.

She and her trail companions love nothing more than putting in miles out in nature.

My nephews?

Quite happy to camp inside the warm house, with Pepper the Suspicious Tattletale Dog occasionally eyeballing me through the window to confirm that no, I wasn’t channeling my late father by spraying leftover carpet cleaning chemicals directly on the burn pile to make happy, colored flames.

Suspicious Dog is too comfy to spy right now, but Suspicious Cat is on to your shenanigans.

Ah, the ’80s, when a man was left to his own devices when it came time to burn, baby, burn.

But anyway, this isn’t a tear-stained ode to Gen X (and our parents) being allowed to flout the laws of nature — it’s the story of a former hardcore hiker always out there looking for new adventures.

Today’s odyssey takes us to the Ebey’s Trail System, and you can read about it by popping over here:

The trail calls to you. (Sarah Kirkconnell photo)

Cow Town is kickin’ your fanny, South Whidbey.

It’s Coupeville which is “the most progressive town for alternative transport trails on the island.”

That’s the assessment offered by noted hiker, best-selling author, and frequent rabble rouser Sarah Kirkconnell, also known as my sister.

While the former longtime Miriam’s Espresso barista calls the South end of Whidbey home these days, it’s the Walking Ebey’s Trail System which gets her stamp of approval.

Having navigated the newly improved system recently, with two of my three nephews along for the hike, she’s hit the interwebs this morning with her review.

To check it out, add to her page hits, and win me favor (and free food!) pop over to:
