Lo and behold, aquatic excellence!

The lone wet Wolf continues to impress in the pool.

Coupeville High School freshman Alexandra Lo travels and trains with Oak Harbor since CHS doesn’t have a swim program.

Now, with the postseason upon her, Lo headed off to Anacortes this weekend, where she participated in the 1A/2A district meet.

All while still repping a 2B school.

Lo earned 6th place in the 200-meter freestyle and 12th in the 100-meter in her first run at postseason aquatic glory.

The season is likely over for the Wolf fab frosh, though there is still a chance she could pick up a wild card entry to the state meet if things break right.

Either way, Coupeville’s swim ace will stay in the pool, as she competes with the North Whidbey Aquatic Club.

Lo is the lone Wolf girl currently involved in high school swimming — though former Coupeville student Riley White also made it to districts, but as a member of the Oak Harbor squad.

CHS junior Finn Price will hit the pool this winter, once again wearing Wolf red and black, but joining South Whidbey swimmers in training and traveling with Kamiak during the regular season.

There’s a second Wolf in the water.

Coupeville High School swim ace Finn Price has spent the past two seasons training and traveling with South Whidbey and Kamiak, as CHS doesn’t have its own pool program.

Now, Wolf freshman Alexandra Lo is making the journey up to Oak Harbor, where she competes as a Wolf while sharing the water at the John Vanderzicht Pool with the Wildcats.

A veteran of the chlorine world from a three-year run with the North Whidbey Aquatic Club, Lo has been swimming in events such as freestyle, medley, and breaststroke.

After the high school seasons wraps, she’ll hop right back in the pool and rejoin her NWAC teammates.

Alexandra Lo, whose older sister Elizabeth is the CHS cheer manager this fall, previously ran cross country in middle school, where she earned the Cascade League’s first-ever sportsmanship award as a 7th grader.

Dynamic duo shine in spotlight

Time for a quick flashback.

Coupeville’s Finn Price and Jaje Drake have returned from the state swim and wrestling championships, respectively.

But ace photographer Karissa Swain, who snapped pics at last week’s send-off for the dynamic duo, was out sick for several days.

Now she’s back in the district office and doing all the work that keeps the joint humming and was nice enough to share her photos with us.

Living large in the CHS hallways.

Off to the big dance.

One-man wrecking crews make statement

One athlete. No teams. Big results.

Coupeville’s Finn Price and Jaje Drake closed out their respective state meets Saturday with strong finishes, standing tall as lone Wolves.

CHS doesn’t field swimming or wrestling programs, so the duo persevered, training and traveling with other schools during the regular season, than forging their own paths in the postseason.

Price, a sophomore, won the consolation finals in the 200 free Saturday at the 2A state championships at the King County Aquatic Center, while also claiming fifth in the 100 free.

His times of one minute, 55.06 seconds in the 200, and 52.41 in the 100 were both better than his results in Friday’s prelims.

Overall, 2B Coupeville (which is just Price, remember) finished 30th out of 34 schools in the team standings.

Drake lost a close match with Rainier’s Matthew Kenney Saturday, ending his run at Mat Classic XXXV at the Tacoma Dome.

The Wolf senior, competing in the 2B/1B boys 215-pound class, finished his tourney with a 2-2 record.

That ties him with current CHS football coach Alex Turner, who also went 2-2 at state in 2019 during his own senior season.

Drake, a one-man demolition crew hefting the torch for the Wolves by himself, carried Coupeville to a 33rd-place performance (out of 50 schools) in the team standings.

Water wizard makes waves at state

He beat the odds to make a big splash.

Finn Price is the lone swimmer at Coupeville High School, and there’s no pool in Cow Town.

That means the Wolf sophomore heads South six days a week, picks up a gaggle of Falcon water wizards, then hops on a ferry and completes the trek to Kamiak High School.

Once the postseason arrives, Price and his fellow Whidbey pool men head off their own way, with Coupeville’s splash king still punching above his weight class.

Though CHS is a 2B school, the lowest rung for swim is 1A/2A, and that’s where Price qualified for the state meet.

Friday, he hit the water at the King County Aquatic Center, powering to a 15th place finish (out of 20 competitors) in the 100 free, hitting the wall in 52.83 seconds.

Price wrapped his big city odyssey with an 11th place showing in the 200 free, finishing in 1:55.83, beating his seeding time in both events.
