CHS grads burn brightly on college track circuit

They’re pushing hard for the finish line.

Coupeville grads Logan Martin and Tate Wyman were both in action Friday, as they near the end of their collegiate track and field season.

Martin, a sophomore at Central Washington University, claimed sixth in the discus at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Ellensburg.

He launched a season-best throw of 138 feet, three inches to kick off a busy weekend.

Martin will get back at it Saturday, when he competes in the hammer throw, his premier event.

Meanwhile, Wyman, a freshman at Oregon Tech, competed in the Cascade Conference Championships in Klamath Falls.

He ran a leg on a 4 x 100 relay crew which earned sixth place, hitting the tape in 42.64 seconds, then came back around to vie in the 110-meter hurdles.

Wyman also finished sixth in that event, zipping across the line in 16.45 to earn three points for Oregon Tech in the team standings.

Lippo wraps collegiate baseball career

One final swing.

Coupeville grad Joey Lippo wrapped a four-year run as a two-sport collegiate athlete Monday.

After graduating from the University of Maine at Presque Isle over the weekend, the former Wolf took the field for a final time in an Owls uniform.

Lippo racked up a hit, a run, and a walk, as UMPI split a doubleheader to the University of Maine-Farmington.

Presque Isle won the opener 11-4, then fell 5-2 in the finale, ending the season at 4-26.

While the Owls struggled to find a winning rhythm during a rebuilding year under a new coach, Coupeville’s progeny put together a strong final campaign on the diamond.

Lippo smacked 27 hits, including three doubles, knocked in a team-high 15 RBI, and scored 18 runs as a senior.

Over his four-year run in Maine, Joe and Connie’s son played in 117 games, recording 412 at-bats, 79 runs, 117 hits, 11 doubles, five triples, two home runs, 52 RBI, 49 walks, and 16 stolen bases.

Skyy’s twin brother, who was a three-sport athlete during his CHS days, also played golf at UMPI, keeping busy in the months when baseball was dormant.

Like a boss, start to finish

Taygin Jump came in like a wrecking ball and went out like a star.

The Coupeville grad capped her freshman track and field season at Plattsburgh State Friday with a stellar performance at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.

Competing in Geneseo, Jump claimed seventh place in the javelin, earning points for the Cardinals.

She threw her implement 102 feet, eight inches.

That was one of two events Jump lined up for at SUNYAC, also finishing 18th in the hammer throw with a lob of 115-00.

During her freshman collegiate season, the former Wolf vied in numerous events, participating in both indoor and outdoor track seasons.

During her time at CHS, Aleksia and Khanor’s older sister played volleyball, both in school and with her club team, while also competing in track and field.

CHS grads show up, show out

Everywhere you look, a former Wolf busy at the next level.

Multiple Coupeville grads competed Friday and Saturday in college sports events, from track and field to baseball.

How they did:

 

Taygin Jump:

The Plattsburgh State freshman earned points for her team in both her events at the Middlebury Outdoor Invitational in Vermont.

Jump finished third (out of 11 competitors) in the javelin, chucking it 94 feet, four inches, then came back around to claim sixth (out of 12) in the hammer, with a throw of 113-02.

 

Joey Lippo:

A senior at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, he recorded three hits and scored twice Saturday in Cambridge as the Owls were swept in doubleheader diamond action.

UMPI, which sits at 2-15 on the season, gets right back at it Sunday with another twin bill against the same school.

 

Logan Martin:

The Central Washington University sophomore was at home during the CWU Wildcat Invitational in Ellensburg.

Martin finished fifth in the hammer (out of 21 throwers), launching the implement 170-02, while also claiming eighth (of 20) in the discus with a lob of 135-04.

 

Tate Wyman:

The Oregon Tech freshman was super-busy this weekend, competing in four events at the Raider Invitational in Ashland.

Wyman opened by nailing a PR of 23.53 seconds in the 200 Friday, then ran in the 110 hurdles (16.88), 400 (57.39), and 4 x 100 relay (45.22) a day later.

Lippo lashes, Owls soar to win

This could be the start of something good.

Coupeville grad Joey Lippo collected three hits as the University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball squad snapped a nine-game losing streak on the diamond.

The Owls hammered the University of Maine at Farmington 12-4 in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday, nabbing their first victory since March 13.

Now sitting at 2-14 on the season, Lippo and Co., who also had several games rained out recently, have 12 contests left on the schedule.

The former Wolf, currently in his senior season at UMPI, has been doing his part, hitting .318 with 20 hits, 14 RBI, and 10 runs.

Lippo leads the Owls in at-bats (65), triples (1), and RBI, while he’s #2 in batting average and hits.

He’s also collected 41 putouts while patrolling the outfield for Presque Isle.

During his CHS days, Lippo played tennis, basketball, and baseball for the Wolves, while at UMPI he has golfed in addition to his work on the diamond.
