Another successful season in the books.

While All-Star play still looms ahead for some teams, Central Whidbey Little League put an official bow on the 2016 campaign with a barbecue Saturday at Rhododendron Park.

Mementos were handed out, players, coaches and volunteers were honored and hot dogs were grilled in massive quantities.

In between the mustard and the game balls, a slew of CWLL moms snapped pics, some of which are seen above.

Thanks to all, those who provided photos this year, and those who sent me scores and updates.

I appreciate it.

The Gunslinger rules the land.

Daniel Olson (my former “manager” at David’s DVD Den) is one of several Coupeville athletes traveling up-Island this spring to play with Oak Harbor’s Babe Ruth baseball squad.

Ulrik Wells and Gavin Knoblich, who will be freshmen at CHS in the fall, are also on the team, while Olson, bound for 8th grade at CMS, is dazzling on the mound.

Firing BB’s from the hill, Olson torched Mount Vernon in his most recent game, tossing a three-hitter in a 15-3 romp.

He whiffed six, including taking down the side in order on just 13 pitches in the second inning.

Knoblich made a running shoestring catch in the same game, stranding two runners, as Oak Harbor avenged a one-run loss against the same squad two days earlier.

Oak Harbor is wrapping up its regular season and then heads off to the postseason, where a state champ will be crowned July 13 in Ephrata.

crush

The Coupeville Crush celebrate their undefeated season with dignity. Always dignity.

One day only. Saturday, Saturday, SATURDAY!!

I know, it’s barely mid-June, the first day of summer is not until Monday, and yet season finale fever is raging all across little league land.

Central Whidbey calls it quits Saturday, with a shindig at Rhododendron Park.

The festivities kick off at 11 AM.

After honoring coaches, volunteers and players, CWLL will cap things with a barbecue.

And, if I’m lucky, everyone with a camera or phone will be snapping pics left and right and then sending them to me.

Just remember — it takes a village to give David enough stuff to keep Coupeville Sports hoppin’ during the off-season.

Be that village.

team

Wolf JV coach/master motivator Chris Smith (red top) tells his team, “No McDonald’s unless you win.”

The school year is over, but the slide shows continue to pop up.

Following on the footsteps of the very popular track season spectacular, CHS baseball moms have put together their own clip show to honor the 2016 Wolf diamond squad.

Set to the music of John Fogerty and Trace Adkins, it documents Coupeville’s rise to the top of the 1A Olympic League, in a concise five-minute burst of images.

Check it out:

Coupeville’s All-League frosh, Matt Hilborn, gets in some time on the mound.

Wolf young gun Nick Etzell is locked and loaded, and making big bro proud.

Those uniforms, though.

With Coupeville, Oak Harbor and South Whidbey combining for American Legion baseball this summer, the resulting team — the Whidbey Nighthawks — sport a uniform which mixes all of their colors.

It makes for a bright display on the diamond, and in the photos captured by wanderin’ camera clicker John Fisken.

The pics above are courtesy him, and come from Thursday night’s game against Meridian.

To keep Fisken clickin’ along, jump over to his site, take a gander at the many, many other photos he has to offer and consider pulling a few bucks out to buy a glossy pic or three.

It’s the best deal in town.
