The leadership is in place.

The Coupeville High School cheer squad used its Instagram page Friday night to honor the young women who will lead the team during the upcoming football season.

Kassidy Upchurch is team captain, while Olivia Hall, Makenna Jonker-Chambers, and Avery Williams-Buchanan are co-captains.

A new CHS gridiron season kicks off Friday, Sept. 6 with a home game against non-conference foe Annie Wright.

Skyy Lippo continues to soar in the dance world.

The Coupeville High School sophomore, twin sister of Wolf three-sport star Joey Lippo, was recently named a ballet company captain with the Whidbey Island Dance Theatre.

She is believed to be the youngest dancer ever named a captain.

The honor traditionally goes to a ballet dancer who is a junior or senior in high school, but this time around theater directors were more concerned with leadership skills than scanning birth certificates.

“They were not looking at age; they were looking for someone who could really connect with the girls and work well with the staff,” said mom Connie Lippo.

Char Brown, the artistic director, described her as compassionate and takes time to notice each of the others,” she added.

Skyy Lippo has danced since she was five.
