On to state!

Help ’em get to Vancouver.

The Whidbey Island All-Stars juniors softball squad — a mix of Coupeville and Oak Harbor players — is off to the state tourney in early July, carrying the banner of District 11 champs.

The Inferno need your help, however.

It’s 210 miles from Whidbey to Vancouver, which sits at the bottom of Washington state, meaning players and parents will need to stay on-site for up to a week, instead of making trips back-and-forth.

But you (yes, you!) can help the Inferno with gas, food, and lodging.

If you do, than in the coming years when the players go on to be high school softball stars, before possibly playing in college and beyond, you can sit back and say, “I helped make that possible.”

So, you’d have that going for you, which is nice.

Fundraiser for CHS seniors flies to town

The flamingos are on their way.

The last fundraiser for the Coupeville High School Class of 2021 hits March 1-12, with an extreme likelihood of the pink birds showing up all around town.

All proceeds go towards a safe, drug and alcohol-free graduation night party this spring.

Don’t be cranky, get crabbin’

The Oak Harbor Marina will host a crab pot fundraiser Sunday afternoon.

Have crab pots?

If not, this is the perfect time to get some for yourself, while helping out a local organization which specializes in boating education.

The Deception Pass Sail and Power Squadron is holding a socially-distanced fundraiser Sunday, January 17 in the Oak Harbor Marina parking lot.

The event will run from 2-3 PM that day, and the marina can be found at 1401 SE Catalina Drive.

All crab gear being offered is clean and inspected, and includes the pot, approximately 80-feet of leaded line, new rot cord, bait bags or boxes, and Washington state legal floats in the size and color required.

There are 50 pots available, and payment needs to be made by cash or checks made out to DPSPS. No credit cards accepted.

The asked donation is $20 per regular crab pot, and $30 for stainless steel ones.

All fundraiser participants are required to wear masks.

Money raised goes to fund a non-profit organization in its 44th year of existence.

DPSPS has 70+ members from Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands and is dedicated to “education and training of safe boating activities.”

Give Central Whidbey Fire a helping hand

Your wallet could help save lives.

Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue is asking for the public’s help in purchasing a LUCAS 3 Chest Compression System, which would be a boon for professionals who handle medical calls from Coupeville to Greenbank.

CWIFR launched a fundraiser Wednesday to try and meet the $18,580 goal.

Many calls are for patients in cardiac arrest, and the chest compression system would be “a crew member who will never get tired, deliver perfect compressions, and can’t get hurt.”

The automated CPR device maintains “uninterrupted chest compressions over long periods,” while “ensuring chest compressions remain consistent and effective, no matter how long the call lasts.”

One recent call required CWIFR crew to provide chest compressions for more than three hours.

Having this device aboard the ambulance would also allow crew members to travel more safely, remaining in safety restraints while transporting patients to the hospital.

Get your (socially-distanced) Santa photo

Santa waits for you.

The Coupeville High School Class of 2021 is hosting a fundraiser, featuring socially-distanced photos with Old Saint Nick.

The event is set for Saturday, December 12 from 10-2 at Bell’s Farm (892 W. Beach Road), and cost is $10 for three digital photos which will be emailed to you.

Patrons are asked to park in the grass area behind the farm’s honesty stand.

You can pay with cash or check (made out to CHS Parents), delivered in an envelope with your name, phone number, and email address written on the front.

Since we’re living in the Age of Coronavirus, extra care will be taken to assure Santa, portrayed by Coupeville gridiron legend Paul Messner, is properly socially-distanced.

While he won’t be sitting with people in the photo as in years past, he will be clearly visible.

“In order to keep Santa safe this year we had to get a little creative,” Wolf mom Deb Smith said. “It’s a way to carry on a Christmas tradition while ensuring safety.”

Participants are asked to wear a mask until they have been seated for their picture, and if you’ve brought your pet for the photo, they need to be leashed.

“We want to keep everyone safe, and get you in and out quickly,” Smith said.

“Take some time to visit the Bells Farm honesty stand and grab some goodies for your holiday table or gifts for family and friends,” she added.

“We’re very fortunate to have their wonderful family help make this possible this year!”
