We’ve reached the finish line.

The fall high school sports season reached its official end Thursday, with Coupeville volleyball players and coaches celebrating the most-successful campaign in program history.

The Wolf varsity, which was undefeated until the final day of the season, finished 18-2, won league and Bi-District titles, and earned a 4th place trophy at the state tourney.

Meanwhile, the JV spikers rolled to a 12-1 mark, avenging their only loss by swatting Mount Vernon Christian the second time around.

Wolf coaches Cory Whitmore, Ashley Menges, Scout Smith, and Cris Matochi honored 21 players with awards and certificates.

Close the book and count the stats.

While the varsity plays on, the Coupeville High School JV volleyball squad capped its season Monday with a straight-sets victory over visiting Sultan.

That sent the Wolves to the locker room riding a 10-match winning streak and boasting a final record of 12-1.

Haylee Armstrong protects the floor at all costs.

Along the way, the young spikers piled up an impressive set of stats, which we have below.

That’s a wrap on almost perfection.

The Coupeville High School JV volleyball squad delivered a sweep of visiting Sultan Monday in its season finale, bringing a close to a 12-1 season.

The young Wolves, whose only loss came very early in the season, finished on a 10-match winning streak while being guided by spiker guru Ashley Menges.

As the lead-in to Senior Night, the Wolf JV got the pro-Coupeville crowd pumped up, polishing off the Turks 25-8, 25-17, 22-20.

While the scores got closer as the night progressed, Menges’ squad stayed in control from Adeline Maynes wicked opening serve to Capri Anter’s final ferocious kill.

With Maynes peppering aces to the right, the left, and right down the middle of the floor, Coupeville blew out to a quick 8-0 lead in the opening set.

Anter, Isa Mc Fetridge, and Sydney Van Dyke followed with their own torrid runs at the service stripe to keep the visitors on their heels, while Lexis Drake and Van Dyke cracked off winners at the net.

Ari Cunningham keeps the action hopping.

The best play in the first frame came when the Wolves scrambled to keep the ball alive on a play that looked like it was done.

Popping the orb off the floor and back into the air, they sent the ball back towards the net, then over, as Maynes dropped a winner over her shoulder while her back was to the defense.

Things didn’t get much easier for Sultan from there, with Drake, Dakota Strong, and Anter combining to snuff out just about everything available at the net.

Willow Leedy-Bonifas had a nice run on her serve, while Ari Cunningham made a sensational save while crashing to the floor to set up teammate Chelsi Stevens for the put-away.

The third set, which was for practice and meant to go to 15, got stretched out as the teams battled back and forth.

Sultan actually led for much of the final frame, before the Wolves rallied late.

A second eye-popping save by the ever-spry Cunningham, this one on a one-handed punch, was huge in the late moments.

Then, trailing 20-19 and facing set point, Coupeville closed the match (and the JV season) on an emphatic 3-0 run.

Two of those winners came off of the mighty fist o’ death being swung by Anter, who racked up a season-high 10 kills in the finale.

Monday stats:

Capri Anter — 10 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces
Haylee Armstrong — 10 digs, 1 ace
Ari Cunningham — 1 kill, 3 digs
Lexis Drake — 5 kills
Willow Leedy-Bonifas — 3 assists
Adeline Maynes — 2 kills, 3 digs, 20 assists, 6 aces

There’s no slowing their roll.

Shaking off the aftereffects of a long bus trip to far-flung Neah Bay Saturday, the Coupeville High School JV volleyball squad captured its eighth straight victory.

Bouncing back to win set three by a tasty 15-5 score after splitting the first two frames, the Wolves get to 10-1 on the season.

Coupeville’s young guns have two matches left on their schedule, with a road trip to Orcas Island Oct. 29 before the home finale Nov. 4 against Sultan.

The Wolves dominated play in the first set Saturday, thunking the Red Devils 25-15, before their hosts rallied to claim the second frame.

That set up a winner-take-all mad dash to 15 points, and the CHS spikers couldn’t be held down.

Which makes for a pleased coach.

“It was a nice, loooooong day, but it was pretty good!” said Wolf skipper Ashley Menges.

“Every game does get better and better, and we’re getting more and more focused on implementing personal goals in games.

“Our third set was our best, focus-wise as well as just overall performance, which makes me happy.”

Saturday stats:

Capri Anter — 4 kills, 7 digs
Haylee Armstrong — 1 kill, 8 digs, 3 assists, 1 ace
Ari Cunningham — 3 digs
Lexis Drake — 5 kills, 2 digs, 4 aces
Adeline Maynes — 1 kill, 4 dig, 14 assists, 2 aces
Isa Mc Fetridge — 1 dig, 1 ace
