Things took a turn for the worse.

A day after romping to a big win, Makana Stone and her Norwegian professional women’s basketball squad fell in a match-up with the league’s best team.

Despite getting a double-double from their Coupeville grad, Ammerud wasn’t able to keep up with Ulriken, falling 88-60

The loss gives Stone and Co. a weekend split and leaves them sitting at 3-5 in the Kvinneligaen.

The former Wolf ace finished with 21 points, a game-high 13 rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while teammates Julia Heiden and Josephine Traberg added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Ulriken gunner Stine Austgulen led all scorers with 32.

Sunday’s match-up was a close one for a quarter, with the top squad in the six-team Kvinneligaen holding on to a 24-22 lead at the first break.

Ulriken, now 6-1 on the season, busted the game open in the second frame, romping to a 23-9 advantage as it carried a 47-31 lead into the locker room.

From there Ammerud’s deficit ballooned out to 69-47 after three quarters of play.

The Queens get a chance at revenge next weekend, when they get a rematch with Ulriken on Sunday, Dec. 10.

Stone, in her third season of overseas pro ball, has racked up 178 points, 94 rebounds, 30 assists, 29 steals, and six blocks through the first eight games.

She’s halfway through a great weekend of professional hoops action.

Coupeville grad Makana Stone kept the stat keepers hoppin’ Saturday in Norway, powering Ammerud to an 85-63 dismantling of Bergen.

The former Wolf collected 30 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and seven steals.

Coming on the heels of a 32-point performance against Asker in her last game, it gives Stone back-to-back games with 30+ points.

Ammerud, now 3-4 on the season, returns to action Sunday when it clashes with league leader Ulriken (5-1).

Stone and Co. seized control of Saturday’s game early and never let their foes back in the game.

Up 24-12 at the first break, Ammerud pushed the margin out to 51-30 at the half, then coasted into the fourth quarter up 75-45.

The Queens put four players into double digit scoring, with Julia Heiden singing the nets for 22 in support of the team’s American assassin.

With her sizzlin’ play Saturday, Stone continues a torrid campaign in the Kvinneligaen.

Now in her third season of pro ball, Andre’s sister has piled up 157 points, 81 rebounds, 27 assists, 25 steals, six blocks, and a million “Don’t hurt ’em, Kana!!! Oh, too late…”

Along with playing professional basketball in Norway, Makana Stone also coaches the next generation of hoops stars.

She continues to fire on all cylinders, even if her team does not.

Coupeville grad Makana Stone filled up the stat sheet in a big way Sunday in Norway, but her pro hoops team stumbled in the second half.

The former Wolf ace went off for a game-high 32 points and 13 rebounds, while also pilfering four steals, but Ammerud fell 78-55 to host Asker.

The loss, the third straight for Stone and her associates, drops them to 2-4 on the season.

Ammerud, which returned to action this season after several years of inactivity, sits in fifth place in the six-team Kvinneligaen.

The Queens are off now for the holidays, returning with back-to-back games Dec. 2-3 against Bergen (0-6) and Ulriken (4-1).

Sunday’s clash with Asker was a barn burner during the first half, with the teams going to the break tied 27-27.

Down 18-16 after one quarter of play, Ammerud used an 11-9 surge in the second frame to knot things up.

After the break, though, Asker made its move.

A 24-9 run in the third quarter pushed the lead to 15 points, before the hosts closed things with a 27-19 advantage across the final 10 minutes.

Stone put up a fierce fight, hitting her high in an Ammerud uniform and scoring from every angle.

She knocked down nine regular baskets, drilled the bottom out of the net on a trio of three-balls and went 5-7 at the free throw line.

But the rest of the Ammerud lineup was 9-39 from the floor in the game, with no one else topping seven points.

The American Assassin filled up the stat sheet.

But while Coupeville grad Makana Stone was electric Sunday in Norway, her teammates struggled through a rough day en route to a loss.

Swamped early by undefeated Ullern, the early front-runner in the six-team Kvinneligaen, Ammerud fell 66-40.

The loss drops the Queens to 2-2 on the still-young season, while Ullern sits at 4-0.

Stone was the lone Ammerud player to hit double-digits in scoring, dropping in a team-high 15 points.

The former Wolf ace added nine rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocked shots.

It wasn’t enough to stop Ullern, however, as the league’s top team jumped out to a 17-5 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The powerhouse unit, which had three players score between 12 and 16 points, pushed the margin to 37-13 at the half, then 54-25 through three frames.

Ammerud has a chance to get back into the winning rhythm next Saturday, Nov. 11, when it faces off with Baerum (2-4), who it has already thumped once this year.
