Jump rocks it in college track world

When she chucks things, they stay chucked.

Coupeville grad Taygin Jump, now a junior at Plattsburgh State, was back in action Saturday, competing at the St. Lawrence Invitational in Canton, New York, where she racked up some points for the Cardinals.

The former Wolf placed 12th in the shot put, unleashing a throw of 24 feet, nine inches, but it was the weight throw where she really left her mark.

Jump let fly on a throw of 42-5.25 to claim 2nd place out of a field of 14 competitors, earning eight points for Plattsburgh.

A volleyball and track star back in her CHS days, Aleksia and Khanor’s older sister is majoring in Environmental Planning & Management when not busy as an athlete.

Plattsburgh returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 31 with an appearance at the Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, New York.

CHS grads chase college track success

Track’s back.

Staying indoors, where January weather is a little less of a problem, two Coupeville grads launched a new season of competition this weekend.

Taygin Jump, a junior at Plattsburgh State, was busy at the Middlebury Winter Classic in Vermont Saturday, while Tate Wyman, an Oregon Tech junior, vied at the Nevada Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Jump finished 8th in the weight throw, chucking her implement 42 feet, 3.25 inches, while also claiming 12th in the shot put with a heave of 29-01.

Plattsburgh returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 24, at a meet hosted by St. Lawrence in New York.

Wyman hit the oval running, competing in three events at his first 2026 meet.

The former Wolf set a PR in the 60-meter hurdles Friday, hitting the tape in 8.79 seconds, while also soaring 20 feet, eight inches in the long jump.

Saturday he was back in action, running the 200 in 22.97 seconds.

Oregon Tech is slated to head back to Nevada Feb. 5-6 for the Wolfpack Classic in Reno.

When they’re not competing in the arena, Jump is studying Environmental Planning & Management, while Wyman is hard at work in the field of embedded systems engineering technology.

Jump earns college academic honors

Winner in the throwing pit, winner in the classroom.

Coupeville grad Taygin Jump, now a sophomore track and field star at Plattsburgh State in New York, received another honor Tuesday.

She was one of five Cardinals named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Track and Field Team.

She joins Plattsburgh teammates Grace Yarkosky, Charles Cypress, Faris Webber, and Isaiah Martens-Collins.

To be eligible for the team, an athlete needed a 3.50 or higher grade point average, while also placing in the top 50 in their region in at least one event.

Jump, who is majoring in Environmental Planning & Management/Geology, finished her sophomore season ranked in the top 18 in her region in both the javelin and weight throw.

The former Wolf ace topped things off with a sixth-place finish in the javelin at the league championships.

It’s been a busy week of honors for Jump, who five days ago was tabbed to the State University of New York Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll.

During her days at CHS, Aleksia and Khanor’s big sis played school and club volleyball, as well as performing for the Wolf track team.

Taygin Jump

No matter the day or time, she’s going to give you her best.

Taygin Jump’s odyssey at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships went a bit longer than expected this weekend, but the former Wolf finished with a bang.

The Coupeville grad, now a sophomore at Plattsburgh State, started the two-day meet in Cortland, New York on Friday by finishing sixth in the javelin toss, uncorking a throw of 94 feet, two inches.

Then she and her fellow competitors started the hammer throw, only to have poor weather shut things down early.

Instead of finishing Friday, Jump and company returned to the arena at the crack of dawn Saturday, with Aleksia and Khanor’s older sister setting a PR by launching her implement 127-08.

That was three inches better than her previous collegiate high-water mark and earned the Cardinal thrower ninth place out of 20 contestants.

Jump, who played school and club volleyball and competed in track and field during her CHS days, is majoring in Environmental Planning and Management/Geology at Plattsburgh.

She wants all the wins

Taygin Jump ended the regular season with a bang.

The Coupeville grad, now a sophomore track and field star at Plattsburgh State, competed in three events Friday at the SLU Twilight Invite in Canton, New York, handily winning both the hammer throw and javelin toss.

Jump chucked her hammer 125 feet, five inches, finishing 21 feet, 11 inches ahead of the second-place finisher.

The former Wolf ace also claimed the title in the javelin with a heave of 95-09, this time placing exactly 22 feet ahead of her nearest rival.

The one event Jump didn’t win Friday was the discus, but she set a PR anyway, claiming fourth place (out of 11 competitors) with a throw of 82-09.

Aleksia and Khanor’s older sister, who is majoring in Environmental Planning & Management/Geology, tallied 26 points for the Cardinals, who finished second in the team standings.

Up next is the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships May 2-3 in Cortland, New York.
