Shoot your shot.

Coupeville High School basketball teams are staging a holiday toy drive next week, with a bit of competition added.

Both the Wolf girls and boys will have their own box in the entrance to the CHS gym, and the results will be tallied Friday, Dec. 16 to see which program brought in the most gifts.

All donations of new, unopened toys will be given to the Help House.

Coupeville’s gym complex will be busy next week, with games held on three days.

Monday, the middle school boys host Sultan, while Wednesday features a high school doubleheader against Crescent, as well as the middle school finale against South Whidbey.

During the varsity-only showdown with Crescent, fans are encouraged to wear their best/ugliest holiday sweater or outfit, or dress as their favorite holiday character.

The week’s home games wrap Thursday, with the high school boys hosting Sedro-Woolley.

Drop a toy in the truck and help local kids in need. (Photo courtesy Dom Anania)

One of Coupeville’s best is going the extra mile for others this Christmas.

Dom Anania, who owns and operates Anania Trucking & Excavating, will have one of his company trucks in Oak Harbor Thursday for a toy drive.

The action goes down starting at 3 PM in the big, open parking lot across from DK Market, where Louie G’s used to be.

Anania is hoping to fill the truck with toys for all ages, which will be donated to Whidbey Island Angels for dispersal to those in need.

Wrapping paper and tape donations would also be great.

Anania attended school in Coupeville K-12, graduating with the CHS Class of 2012, and has gone on to build a successful business by working his butt off.

Just a good dude all around, and, if you can help him help others, so much the better.

You can brighten a child’s life.

Coupeville High School’s Captain’s Panel, a group of Wolf athletes, is working with the middle and high school ASB groups to run a toy drive through Dec. 13.

New, boxed/packaged toys can be dropped off either at the CHS and CMS offices, or at any home basketball games over the next week.

Those games include:

Sat-Dec. 7 — CHS girls/boys, varsity/JV, vs. Orcas Island (3:30)
Wed-Dec. 11 — CMS boys vs. Sultan (3:15)
Thur-Dec. 12 — CHS C-Team boys vs. Squalicum (6:00)
Fri-Dec. 13 — CHS girls/boys, varsity/JV, vs. Concrete (5:15)

The drive is being run in conjunction with the Readiness to Learn Foundation, Toys for Tots, and other community organizations.

The intent is to help provide toys and financial assistance to those in need on Whidbey Island, while helping Wolf athletes demonstrate service to the community.

The Captain’s Panel is comprised of sophomore through senior CHS athletes, who have been selected by their coaches as leaders, people of character, and highly motivated student/athletes.

Prior to the toy drive, these Wolves also ran sports clinics for Coupeville Elementary School students.

The captains have planned, coordinated, and organized the drive, working with both schools to promote and educate other students to the cause.

If you donate a toy, either at the school offices (501 S. Main Street), or at basketball games, you’ll receive a candy cane, plus a warm glow in your chest.

Or, if you can’t be there in person, monetary donations can be sent to:

Holiday House
PO Box 280
Langley WA 98260

This time it’s personal.

Well, probably not, but you always have to ramp up the action and excitement with each sequel.

The 3rd Annual Guns vs. Hoses toy drive fundraiser — which pits Whidbey Island cops against firefighters — is set for a month from today.

It’s moving out of the Coupeville High School gym and heading up to Oak Harbor and if you want any more info, I’ll direct you to the snazzy poster above.
