They always bring their best.

Whether competing on Whidbey or on the mainland, the Coupeville High School cheer squad continues to shine brightly.

Wednesday the Wolves were in Bothell, where they earned second place in the coed varsity division at the “Bring on the Reign” event.

The competition featured each team selecting a charity to represent as well, with CHS standing tall for the Joyful Heart Foundation.

That charity is “creating a more compassionate world that supports survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse on their path to justice and healing.”

Jessica (Bester) Nelson

Family members have launched a GoFundMe to assist a former Wolf athlete facing a battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Jessica (Bester) Nelson, 26, attended middle school in Coupeville, playing basketball, and went on to be a member of the cheer squad as a CHS freshman, joining her cousin, Ciera St Onge.

Nelson has spent the past five weeks in the hospital and a rehabilitation facility and has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and neuromyelitis.

On the GoFundMe page, her mother says her daughter “no longer has use of her legs, and her hands are locked.”

Nelson is in need of “a wheelchair, toiletries, slippers and non-slip socks, belts for lifting, a transfer board, a wheelchair lift for their truck, and numerous other items” and the fundraiser is being launched to “alleviate some of the burden on her wife both financially and physically.”
