Complete and utter domination.

That’s what Coupeville High School junior Christine Fields threw down Monday, running away with the individual title at a three-team golf meet at Sultan.

Playing at Blue Boy Golf and Country Club, Lone Wolf Fields rang up a score of 31 over nine holes using modified Stableford scoring.

None of the other ten golfers — five each from South Whidney and the host Turks — scored higher than a 24.

South Whidbey, which had all five of its golfers clumped together in the 24-22 range, easily won the team title, bouncing Sultan 114-58.

"And another birdie for me!!"

“And another birdie for me!!”

The Everett Herald is wrong.

Which is not a huge surprise, as the Canadian-owned big city paper covers about 12,000 high school sports teams, and gets the facts right on at least 27.4% of its stories.

But, anyway.

Check out the Herald and you’ll believe the medalist at Thursday’s golf match between King’s and South Whidbey, held at the Mill Creek Country Club, was a duffer from the host Everett school.

That, however, would be wrong.

Coupeville High School junior Christine Fields, the lone Wolf at the meet, carded a 53 in modified Stableford scoring over 14 holes, to claim that honor.

She edged out King’s Hannah Roh (51), the presumed (at least by The Herald) champ.

King’s smacked the Falcons 172-152 in team scoring. That part they got right.

UPDATE: Numbers got added wrong and Fields did NOT medal, as first thought. Miss Roh was the rightful medalist.

But, since I am on vacation, since Miss Fields is still awesome, even if she didn’t win on this day, and since The Herald is still often incompetent, we’ll just leave this as it is.

And that’s all I have to say on that…

Christine Fields, ruler of golf courses and destroyer of souls.

The Queen is back. Long live the Queen.

Beset by rain, illness and family vacations, Coupeville High School junior Christine Fields has only competed in a handful of golf matches this season.

But a handful is all she needs to hold on to her crown.

Staring down the best South Whidbey and Archbishop Thomas Murphy could throw at her Monday, the one-woman Wolf wrecking crew rolled to an impressive win.

Playing at her home-away-from-home course at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, Fields carded a 29 using modified Stableford scoring.

That easily brought her medalist honors, with South Whidbey’s Rosie Portillo (26) the only other duffer within shouting distance.

In the team competition, the host Falcons bounced ATM 75-42.

Christine Fields

Christine Fields

Even Christine Fields slightly off days on the golf course are pretty good.

The Coupeville High School junior described her performance Tuesday at Cedarcrest Golf Club in Lakewood as “a bad day,” yet she carded the third best score out of the 11 varsity golfers competing.

Her score of 23 points over nine holes, using modified Stableford scoring, put her hot on the heels of Lakewood’s Hailey Duitsman (24) and not that far off medalist Rosie Portillo (26) of South Whidbey.

The Falcons, who Fields trains and travels with, beat their hosts 88-77 in the team scoring race. With only the Lone Wolf, Coupeville has no shot in the team battle.
