Yes, these are not Tolo dresses. I do know that much about dresses. But it's not like I have a billion dress-related pics sitting around, so this will do quite nicely. (John Fisken photo)

Damn, David. Back at it again with the dresses!

OK, having tipped my hat at a meme which will fade away in a hot moment (we can all hope), let’s get to why we’re really here.

With Tolo bearing down on the masses (Saturday night 9 PM in Coupeville), the scramble for the proper attire is underway.

Riding to the rescue is My Fairy Godmother, which has once again arrived on the scene with a room stuffed full of reasonably-priced dresses, including a whole batch of new additions.

Where: the Coupeville Middle School Art Room

When: Wednesday-Thursday 2:30-5:30 and Friday 2:30-4:30

Cost: $20 (super reasonable!)

Dream big. Succeed big.

Soroptimist International of Coupeville will be offering three free seminars — Dream it, Be It: Career Support for Girls –– in March, with an eye on helping local young women prepare for their futures.

The sessions will be held at a yet to be determined spot, and registration is now open.

Classroom space is limited and it’s on a first-come, first-served basis, so girls and their parents are encouraged to pick up, fill out and return the necessary forms as soon as possible.

Registration applications can be found in the counseling center at Coupeville High School and can be returned there or to Shelli Trumbull at Cascade Insurance (404 S. Main).

The sessions will be:

Saturday, Mar. 5 – 10:00-2:30
Saturday, Mar. 12 – 10:00-2:30
Saturday, Mar. 19 – 9:00-3:30

Each session, which is designed for high school-aged girls, will include female business owners from the Central Whidbey community.

The program aims to empower young women to pursue career goals, with an emphasis on career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles and moving forward after setbacks.

Athletes, in dresses. (John Fisken photo)

Say yes to the dress.

Why not? I already said yes to writing about the dress, so the least you can do is go try one on.

OK, wait, let me stop babbling for a second here and focus on what I’m supposed to be saying.

Which is this, that My Fairy Godmother is here to provide classy dresses at a very-reasonable price to Coupeville High School girls looking to make a splash at a school dance such as Homecoming.

Cost is a mere $20, and you get half of that back once you return the dress.

The first try-on is Friday, Sept. 25 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the CHS commons, with future try-ons set for the next two Fridays (Oct. 2 and 9).

If you have questions, contact My Fairy Godmother head honcho Amy Briscoe at albriscoe1074@gmail.com.

The sounds of cancer getting its fanny kicked could be heard for miles.

The annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life, held at the North Whidbey Middle School in Oak Harbor, drew tons of walkers, well-wishers, support crew, musicians and curious photographers.

To all involved, well done. Never give in.

I’m all about that dress.

Well, at least for a moment. Then we’re back to sports.

But, since a fair amount of Coupeville High School’s best athletes have been known to wear a dress or two, it all fits together.

So, doing my public service, I’m here to give you a head’s up on My Fairy Godmother, a project run by the Coupeville Soroptimists.

It offers high school girls a chance to obtain formal dresses for Prom and other such dances for a small fee.

A very small fee.

Cost is $15 and you get $10 of that back when you return the dress. Donate a dress yourself and the cost drops even further.

There are 200+ dresses to choose from, with a variety of sizes and styles available.

To take advantage of the service (and enjoy the sparkling cider and snacks offered with the dress search), contact Amy Briscoe at (360) 929-7829 to set up an appointment.

And that’s about all I have to say about dresses for the time being, though I am willing to keep talking about these here snacks…
