Action abounds, standings sprout

Things are starting to get busy.

The week ahead features action for all five active Coupeville High School fall sports teams, including the first game for boys soccer.

Those booters finally hit the pitch Sept. 13, when they travel to Mount Vernon Christian.

After that comes their home debut Sept. 17 against Cedar Park Christian-Lynnwood.

Meanwhile, Wolf football hosts Sultan Sept. 16 and cross country travels to South Whidbey Sept. 17.

Girls soccer and volleyball are the busiest Coupeville teams, playing three times between now and next Saturday.

The pitch queens host Oak Harbor Sept. 13, travel to University Prep Sept. 15, and host Ocosta Sept. 17.

Wolf volleyball will hit the road all week, with each trip further away.

The spikers play at South Whidbey Sept. 12, travel to Cedar Park Christian-Bothell the next day, then cap things with an appearance at the SunDome Volleyball Festival in Yakima Sept. 16.

It’s one title…

Hang three more plaques in the Coupeville High School gym.

The weather has been fairly lousy this spring, but Wolf sports teams have provided their own sunshine with their play.

CHS baseball, softball, and girls tennis all claimed Northwest 2B/1B League titles, with track and field narrowly missing out on making it a clean sweep.

The oval kings made up for that, however, as the boys track team captured a district crown Saturday.

As we look to the week ahead, the regular season is done, and postseason play is all the rage.

Coupeville girls tennis and track and field are at Bi-Districts Friday, May 20, travelling to Tumwater and Chehalis respectively.

Meanwhile, Wolf softball returns to the field — after 18 days off — with a winner-to-state, loser-out game May 21 in Centralia against a yet-to-be-named foe.

With the end of the school year fast approaching, and baseball already eliminated, a final look at NWL standings, through games of May 14:

The Wolves play for a trifecta.

Coupeville High School baseball and softball have clinched Northwest 2B/1B League titles, and girls tennis will try and make it a trio of champs when it hosts Friday Harbor Tuesday, May 10.

That’s one of just three scheduled contests for Wolf teams this coming week, though everything being played has major consequences.

CHS baseball travels to a neutral field in La Conner May 12 to face Friday Harbor in a winner-to-state, loser-out game.

Then, Wolf track and field hosts the District 1 Championships May 14, a precursor to bi-district and state meets.

Meanwhile, the Coupeville athletes with the best win/loss record — the 16-2 softball sluggers — await their own winner-to-state, loser-out game.

That tilt doesn’t arrive until May 21, however.

Fancy like first place

The Wolves slide into May.

The transition begins.

The week ahead brings an end to the regular season for three of Coupeville High School’s four spring sports teams.

Wolf baseball and softball cap things with a road trip to Darrington Tuesday, May 3, while CHS track begins the postseason trek with a trip to La Conner May 4 for the Northwest 2B/1B League championships.

Both diamond squads will play beyond their Darrington trips, but everything after those games will have a postseason flair.

Meanwhile, the Wolf netters are scheduled to play a home-and-away series with South Whidbey May 3 and 6, respectively.

Tennis will still have one more regular-season match left on the schedule, with a league clash against Friday Harbor set for May 10, before it also begins the postseason journey.

April fades, standings solidify

Justin Timberlake is warming up his vocal cords.

“It’s gonna be May” in just a few days, but first Coupeville High School sports teams have a couple more April games to play.

Wolf baseball and softball each have three games on the schedule this coming week, with a slightly different setup.

The hardball squad hosts Friday Harbor Tuesday, Apr. 26, travels to South Whidbey Apr. 28, then hosts Orcas Island for Senior Night Apr. 29.

Meanwhile, the CHS softball sluggers remain at home, with Friday Harbor visiting Apr. 26.

Orcas arrives Apr. 29, and while it’s also Senior Night, softball plans to play a doubleheader.

The schedule is lighter for Coupeville girls tennis and track, which both have one competition on the schedule.

The Wolf netters kick off the week, hosting Friday Harbor Apr. 25, while the runners, jumpers, and throwers cap things with a trip to Lakewood Apr. 30.

That Saturday event is a shindig known as the Sunny & 70’s Invite.
