A little home cooking, a little far-flung adventure.

Coupeville High School basketball teams have a split schedule in the week ahead, starting at home and finishing on the road.

The Wolves host Concrete Tuesday, with both varsity teams and the girls’ JV suiting up, while the second boys’ squad has the night off.

Then, come Friday, all four CHS squads hit the road for a trip to Orcas Island.

With the regular season entering the stretch run, wins and losses are at a premium for everyone, but especially for varsity teams fighting for playoff positioning.

Where things sit through Jan. 19:

La Conner 4-1 7-8

Back on the bus.

Coupeville High School basketball teams play exclusively off the island during the coming week, with two trips planned.

The Wolf boys head off to Napavine Monday for a varsity-only rumble, before the varsity girls and JV boys join them Friday for a trek to Darrington.

The Loggers don’t have a JV girls’ team, so Coupeville’s second squad of female hoops stars has the week off from game action.

After that, there are five regular season games left on the schedule — three of those at home — with all four Wolf squads slated to see action.

As we move forward, here’s where things sit for varsity teams through Jan. 12:

Northwest League boys’ basketball:

School League Overall
La Conner 3-0 6-7
MV Christian 3-0 5-6
Coupeville 2-2 3-9
Concrete 1-2 5-7
Darrington 1-2 6-6
Orcas Island 1-2 3-8
Friday Harbor 0-3 0-11

Northwest League girls’ basketball:

School League Overall

MV Christian 3-0 9-2

The second stage begins.

Things heat up starting next week, as most of the remaining games on the high school basketball schedule are conference rumbles.

Barring an unlikely reschedule of the non-league tilts with Morton-White Pass which were cancelled by a day-long power outage on Whidbey, the Coupeville girls have eight games left, and all are against Northwest 2B/1B League teams.

Meanwhile, the Wolf boys are set to play eight of nine against conference rivals, with one trip to Napavine nestled amid that run.

First up for both CHS teams is a trip to Friday Harbor this coming Tuesday, followed by home games Friday with La Conner.

As the Wolves prep for the stretch drive, a look at where things sit through Jan. 5:

Northwest League boys’ basketball:

School League Overall
La Conner 2-0 5-6
Darrington 1-0 5-4
MV Christian 1-0 3-6
Coupeville 1-1 2-8

Orcas Island 0-2 1-7

Northwest League girls’ basketball:

Games are fewer and farther between during the holidays, but Wolf fans are eternally enthusiastic. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

More days off than on right now.

With the holidays unfolding, most Northwest 2B/1B League basketball teams are taking chunks of time off between games.

After playing two tilts in Eastern Washington this weekend, Coupeville is in rest mode until a road trip to Wahkiakum next Saturday, Jan. 4.

That trip is 200+ miles one way, however, so there’s that to look forward to for the Wolves.

As we mentally prep for the calendar to flip to a new year — a time when conference action will become the focus — here’s where things currently stand:

Northwest League boys’ basketball:

School League Overall
La Conner 2-0 5-3
Darrington 1-0 4-4
MV Christian 1-0 3-3
Coupeville 1-1 2-7
Concrete 0-1 2-4
Friday Harbor 0-1 0-8
Orcas Island 0-2 1-5

Northwest League girls’ basketball:

School League Overall
Concrete 1-0 4-2
La Conner 1-0 4-4
MV Christian 1-0 6-1
Coupeville 1-1 3-6
Friday Harbor 0-0 1-7
Darrington 0-1 4-3
Orcas Island 0-2 5-3

Go East, young man (and woman).

Next week brings Christmas, and then a trip to Central Washington University for Coupeville High School basketball players.

The Wolves are slated to play back-to-back games Friday and Saturday against non-conference foes, bringing the 2024 portion of the season to a close.

The CHS boys clash with Toledo and Kittitas, while the girls flip it around, and open with Kittitas before squaring up with Toledo.

As the Wolves head towards the end of 2024, and the dawn of 2025, a look at where things stand through Dec. 22:
