“Ooh, you better run, Skippy! Buy a booster club ticket or get kicked in the shin! Your choice!!” (Jackie Saia photo)

The biggest night in Coupeville athletics is back on the calendar.

The booster club’s annual dinner and auction, which got dinged a bit by the pandemic, is back in full force and going down Saturday, Nov. 11.

Doors open at 4:30 PM at the Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge, which is located at 63 Jacobs Road.

Dinner, provided by Serendipity Catering and Events, begins at 6:00, with a dessert auction set for 6:30.

This year is NOT a crab feed but features a “yummy menu!” according to Booster Club bigwig Jess Lucero.

“If someone wants a vegetarian dish, they should request it at the time they purchase their ticket from a board member,” she added.

A silent auction and raffles will run through the evening, with a live auction at 7:00 emceed by The Velvet Voice of the Prairie himself, Dale Sherman.

Among the items up for grabs include a one-week stay at a Maui condo, a sunset cruise, and a four-day, three-night stay at a townhome in Park City, Utah — home of the Sundance Film Festival.

There will also be a variety of themed baskets, including Italian dinner and wine and cheese assortments, as well as Sherman beef, running and Patagonia gear, and local artwork.

Cost for the night is $55 per person, or $400 for a table of eight.

All proceeds go to help the Coupeville Booster Club, which provides major funding for school athletics.

The organization annually awards eight $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors, while also providing a yearly stipend to high school and middle school sports programs.

The club provides roses for Senior Night festivities, varsity letters for Wolf athletes, meal money and goodie bags for road trips, and numerous team improvement items.

These have ranged from literature and DVDs to tarps, weight room equipment, batting cages, upgrades to school athletic fields and facilities, and t-shirts for cancer awareness nights.

The Wall of Fame in the CHS gym, which documents accomplishments from 100+ years of Coupeville athletics?

It wouldn’t exist without the support of the boosters, who provided the biggest financial contribution to its development, and continue to handle updates.

Your bucks help the booster club thrive, and the club helps athletics thrive. The circle of life in Wolf Nation.

To buy tickets, call Jess Lucero at (636) 675-1632 or reach out to any of these Booster Club board members:

Jacquelynn McCarthy

Something for you, something for her.

Coupeville’s Seaside Spa and Salon is hosting a virtual auction Nov. 1-3 to help raise funds for employee Jacquelynn McCarthy.

The spa, which just celebrated its 14th anniversary, is owned by Aaron Wiley.

McCarthy, an esthetician, is locked in a battle with Carney Complex and is headed towards her third open heart surgery.

It’s an extremely rare disease, with only several hundred documented cases worldwide since 1985, in which tumors repeatedly grow on a person’s heart.

The auction, which begins this coming Sunday, will allow people to bid on items and services from a ton of businesses such as Ciao and Pickles Deli.

The money raised will go to help Jacqui during her recovery.

After the surgery, she will need to take substantial time off of work and will continue to undergo extensive testing in Seattle, which entails frequent trips off-Island.

With no family in the area to help, this gives all of Whidbey an opportunity to step up and act as a second family for the outgoing, extremely well-liked Jacqui.

Stay dry(!!!) at CHS softball games by winning an auction for the best seat in the house. (Amy Briscoe photo)

If you’ve ever attended a softball game at Coupeville High School’s field, you know weather is a crap-shoot.

Wind, rain, even the chance of frogs falling from the skies — they’re all in play.

With that in mind, the Wolves are offering a prime opportunity.

Yes, the chance to hold the “best” seat in the house, thanks to a chair that’s covered on all sides.

Wolf moms are auctioning off the dream chair all season, with each winner locking down the seat for two games at a time.

The first auction kicks off as soon as you read this article, with bidding closing Friday, Mar. 17 at 8 PM.

First winner gets exclusive access to the chair for home games Saturday, Mar. 18 against South Whidbey and Saturday, Mar. 25 against Vashon Island.

To bid, go to my Facebook page — https://www.facebook.com/david.svien — and make your bid in the comment section for this story.

Amy Briscoe, mom of Wolf sluggers Tiffany and Kyla, will contact the winner.

Two days until the biggest night of the summer.

People from near and far are expected to pack the Coupeville Rec Hall this Friday, Aug. 19 for an auction fundraiser to help an ailing Wolf hoops star.

Bennett Boyles, 11, finished three weeks of treatment for inoperable tumors on his brain stem and just returned home from Seattle, but he and his family still face a tough road ahead.

Bennett’s teachers at the Ebey Academy have been spearheading fundraisers all summer to help his mom, CHS grad Lucienne Rivera, a single mom of two who had to quit her job to take care of her son.

Friday night the Rec Hall will be jumping to the music of Jacobs Road, with more than 100 items up for auction.

Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door (the rec hall is at 901 NW Alexander St., across the street from Christopher’s on Whidbey.)

The event, which runs from 6-10 PM, is open to all ages.

Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be available, with wine and beer offered by donation thanks to Penn Cove Tap Room.

Some of the many items which will be up for auction:

Toby’s Tavern gift basket
Knead & Feed baking class
Framed, signed Steve Largent jersey
A party with Santa
A Seahawks tailgate party
Wine and cheese basket
A wheelbarrow full of beer
Photography sessions

Co-op teacher extraordinaire Tami Aparicio (in apron), at home in her kingdom.

The legendary Central Whidbey Co-Op Preschool is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and it needs your help to make things special.

The school has planned a silent auction fundraiser for Saturday, Feb. 27, called “Co-Op Kids, Wine & Bids.”

The adults-only event will be held at the Coupeville Rec Hall from 6-9 PM and admission is $10.

Hors d’oeuvre and wine will be served and Lisa Toomey and Tishia Malone will provide the musical entertainment.

As they head towards the event, organizers are seeking donations for the auction.

In particular, they’re hoping that Co-Op alumni will join the effort, giving back to the school which helped shape them as young children.

The auction will include physical items as well as unique “experience based” auction items.

An example of the latter is former Coupeville High School baseball star Ben Etzell, who is currently playing college ball in Minnesota, is offering a “Batting Cage with Benjamin” experience.

All donations are tax deductible, as the school is a 501(c) non-profit.

If you’re interested in donating items or experiences for the auction, text or call Kristi Etzell (360-320-3910) or email her at simplesis01@yahoo.com.

To make financial donations or buy tickets to the event (pre-orders get a complimentary ticket in a raffle which will be held that night) pop over to the Co-Op’s website:
