There’s money to be made. Scholarship money.

For the second year, rovin’ photo man John Fisken will be handing out a pair of $250 college scholarships to Coupeville High School student/athletes.

The scholarships are funded by sales of photos that he takes at CHS and CMS games. So, when you buy a photo, you are part of the solution.

Applications can be picked up in the counselor’s office at the high school. The deadline to apply comes in mid-April.

Breeanna Messner and Brandon Kelley took home the inaugural awards last year.

To be eligible, athletes should have played at least two sports for all four years (consideration is given to athletes who didn’t attend CHS all four years) and have a 3.0 or better GPA.

There is no requirement the winners be one boy and girl. Fisken can do that or go with two boys or two girls. Up to him.

Just off the top of my head, names like McKayla Bailey, Madeline Strasburg, Hailey Hammer, Monica Vidoni, Kacie Kiel, Joel Walstad, Matt Shank, Aaron Curtin and Aaron Trumbull jump to mind. And that’s just a start.

Go! Apply! Even if you don’t 100% fit the criteria, Fisken is flexible.

Wow him in the one-on-one interview (and maybe bring him a can of Diet Coke as a subtle bribe…). Knock him out with your essay.

Earn your spot just like you did on the athletic field. You’re all champs, whether I named you or not.

Don’t leave money on the table.

Priceless memories captured via the high-tech, soul-stealing magic of a camera. (John Fisken photos)

"Ooh, who's in charge nbow?

“I’d buy that for $1!! How about you, Risen?!”

John Fisken wants your money.

Of course, he is willing to give you something back in return.

The rovin’ photo man spent much of the winter camped out in the Coupeville High School gym, fortified by just an endless stream of Diet Coke, snapping pics of all the basketball shenanigans, on and off the court.

Now, as the Wolves head into spring, he’s dropping a reminder that players, parents, grandmas and other folks can preserve their memories of the 2014-2015 basketball season by purchasing a few of said photos.

Photos can be found at the following sites:

http://www.olympicleague.com/index.php?league=21&page_name=school_home&school=0&sport=0

http://www.cascadeathletics.com/index.php?district=1&league=2

Or, for the remainder of March, Fisken is offering a special deal. Contact him directly at johnfisken@comcast.net and he’ll pick photos for you.

Buy 10 or more and he’ll discount to $5 a pop ($7 normal).

You give him an idea of what you want (action, goofy, group, etc.) and he’ll give you his all-star version of your Wolf athlete’s journey through the season.

Digital images (higher grade than what you can copy off of Coupeville Sports) will be emailed directly to you and then you can make as many prints of each photo as desired.

As always, any purchases help fund college scholarships for CHS senior student/athletes.

Brandon Kelley, doin' work.

Brandon Kelley, doin’ work.

If he has time, Brandon Kelley has a birthday to celebrate today.

I hedge my bet, because the 19-year old former Wolf has always been a busy, busy man.

During his days at Coupeville High School he was a successful track and tennis star, played in the band and competed in Science Olympiad.

In track, especially, he was a major threat, whether running in the hurdles or on winning relay squads, where he often was teamed up with younger brother Lathom to give the Wolves a double-whammy of Kelley speed.

And that was just the tip of the iceberg for a guy who always got a lot accomplished.

He also traveled to Mexico with his church group and, very deservedly, received one of the first two college scholarships financed by sales of CHS sports photos last year.

Honored along with Breeanna Messner, the duo were flawless fits when you looked at the criteria for the award — which honored student/athletes who did well in the classroom and on the field and stayed at both for their entire high school run.

Brandon (and his lil’ bro) are both class acts, hard-working guys who represent their parents (Lincoln and Shawna Kelley), their school and their town extremely well.

He may be off in college now, but BK will always be a Wolf and Wolf Nation will always be proud of him.

So, if you have the time, Brandon, take a moment for yourself today. You’ve earned it.

Think about the future.

Thinking about playing more than one sport this school year? Do it.

Thinking about you or your family buying photos taken by Olympic League clicker John Fisken? Do it.

Both choices can benefit you, if you’re a Coupeville High School student/athlete.

Today and in the future.

For the second year, Fisken will be awarding up to two college scholarships to Wolf seniors. And, with the money coming directly from photo sales, local fan and parent support is key.

The scholarships, which went to Breeanna Messner and Brandon Kelley in their inaugural go-round, have been renamed the Olympic League.com Scholar-Athlete Award, to reflect Coupeville bouncing into a new league.

Up to two $250 awards will be handed out. The number of scholarships and dollar amount are directly tied to photo sales.

You can find pics at the league’s website, http://www.olympicleague.com , and links to Fisken’s work are frequently posted here on Coupeville Sports.

To be eligible, Wolf seniors need to have participated in at least two sports for all four years of school.

Exceptions may be granted in cases of injury or for students who came to CHS midway through their high school careers.

Seniors also need to have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better and submit a 500-word essay on “How Sports Made Me A Better Person.”

Applications are available in the CHS counseling center.

Every time you buy a photo, you send a kid to college.

Sort of.

All school year, travelin’ photo man John Fisken has been snapping pics of Coupeville High School athletes at play, as well as middle school and community athletic events.

Many of these photo shoots have ended up here on Coupeville Sports, since he’s nice enough to donate his pics to me in exchange for me tossing up links to where folks can see more photos and possibly purchase some.

And, just as he has done in Oak Harbor for years, this year Fisken set up a deal where a percentage of the money raised by photo sales would revert back to CHS in the form of scholarships for senior student/athletes.

To be eligible, a student had to play at least two sports for all four years and the inaugural winners, announced Tuesday night at the school’s awards ceremony, were Breeanna Messner and Brandon Kelley.

Messner was a four-sport athlete during her time as a Wolf, playing volleyball, basketball and softball while also cheering during the fall.

She was a team captain and claimed several All-Cascade Conference honors along the way.

Kelley played tennis and ran track, where he was a standout hurdler and member of several CHS relay squads, where he often teamed with younger brother Lathom.

The duo received $325 apiece.

Fisken plans to continue the scholarship, so keep that in mind as you peruse his photos going forward.

The dollars you send his way can come back to help Wolf athletes, including, possibly, your own sons or daughters or nieces or nephews or grandchildren.

Circle of life and all.
