Ernie Banks would have been proud.

Fulfilling the baseball legend’s oft-repeated mantra of “let’s play two,” Coupeville High School grad Chelsea Prescott did just that Saturday.

Her games came on the volleyball court, however, and not the baseball diamond, as she now delivers spikes for Medaille College in Buffalo, New York.

The Mavericks freshman filled up the stat sheet, though, something Banks used to do on a regular basis.

Prescott’s solid play helped Medaille earn a split on the day, as the Mavericks beat SUNY Poly in straight sets before falling to Buffalo State in the nightcap.

Medaille sits at 2-4 on the season, and returns to action with an appearance at the Buffalo State Women’s Volleyball Bengal Challenge next weekend, Sept. 17-18.

The Mavericks are scheduled to play Cazenovia College Friday, then have a doubleheader Saturday, with Houghton College and Alfred University on the menu.

This time around, Medaille bounced SUNY Poly 25-9, 25-15, 25-19, then came close, but couldn’t quite get over the hump against Buffalo State, coming up on the wrong end of a 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 score.

Prescott had three kills, four digs, and her first five college service aces against SUNY Poly, before delivering five kills, eight digs, two assists, and a block in the finale.

On the season, the former Wolf standout has played in all 18 sets, racking up 27 kills, 35 digs, five aces, two assists, a solo block, and two block assists.

Prescott’s 34 points on offense is third-best on the team.

Another first.

Playing in her fourth college volleyball match Tuesday, Coupeville grad Chelsea Prescott came away with her first win.

Sparked by a five-kill, six-dig performance from the former Wolf, Medaille College ran visiting Wells College off the floor in straight sets.

The 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 win lifts the Mavericks to 1-3 on the season, and they’ll carry that record into the Medaille/Hilbert Invitational, which runs Sept. 10-11.

Prescott and Co. are scheduled to play Buffalo State, SUNY Poly, and Hilbert College during that tourney.

Playing at home in Buffalo, New York, the Medaille spikers produced a well-balanced stat-line Tuesday, with junior Halle Bogas (eight kills) and freshman Haley Kennedy (22 assists) among the leaders.

Prescott has played in all 12 sets the Mavericks have contested this season, racking up 19 kills and 23 digs thus far.

It’s a learning process.

Coupeville High School grad Chelsea Prescott and her new teammates at Medaille College picked up some valuable experience this weekend playing at the University of Rochester Invitational.

Two losses in as many matches Saturday left the Mavericks at 0-3 on the young season, but there’s still 20 more tilts to play during the regular season.

The first of those arrives Tuesday, Sept. 7, when Medaille hosts Wells College, which sits at 1-4 on the year.

Saturday, the Mavericks fell 25-12, 25-19, 25-17 to Smith College, then went down 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 to the University of Rochester.

Prescott delivered six kills and six digs in the opener, then tossed in two kills and five digs in the finale.

Through three matches, the former Wolf has played in all nine sets, racking up 14 kills and 17 digs.

Prescott was impeccable on service return against Smith College, converting all 15 of her opportunities without picking up a single error.

Before graduating with Coupeville’s Class of 2021, Prescott starred for the Wolves in volleyball, basketball, and baseball.

She helped lead both the spikers and diamond dandies to the state tournament during her run in Cow Town, and was the CHS Female Athlete of the Year for her senior season.

The first match is in the books.

Coupeville High School grad Chelsea Prescott made her college volleyball debut Friday night, racking up major floor time as Medaille College opened play at the University of Rochester Invitational.

The Mavericks fell in straight sets against the Rochester Institute of Technology, losing 25-16, 25-15, 25-13.

Prescott and Co. get a chance to bounce right back with two matches Saturday in New York as the six-team tourney wraps play.

Medaille is scheduled to face Smith College in the morning, and the tourney hosts in the afternoon.

Prescott, a three-sport star and Athlete of the Year winner during her time at CHS, racked up six kills, six digs, and a block assist in her college debut.

She’s official.

With Media Day out of the way, Medaille College in Buffalo just posted its 2021 volleyball roster, and Coupeville grad Chelsea Prescott is on there, proudly beaming.

The freshman outside hitter, a three-sport supernova in her Wolf days, is one of nine players listed for the Mavericks.

Medaille opens its season with a game against its alumni next Tuesday, Aug. 31, then flies into regular-season play.

The Mavericks have 23 matches scheduled, starting with an appearance at the University of Rochester Invitational Sept. 3-4.

Prescott and her new teammates tip off against the Rochester Institute of Technology on day one, then play Smith College and the tourney hosts in a Saturday doubleheader.

Growing up in Coupeville, where she was named CHS Female Athlete of the Year as a senior, Chelly was a standout volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball player.

She went to the state tourney with volleyball and softball, and helped lead the Wolf diamond squad to a 12-0 season during a pandemic-altered senior campaign.
