The strength of the Wolf is the pack.

Proving that to be true, 20 Coupeville High School football players showed up Friday — on a day when there was no school — to help their coaches run a flag football clinic for local children.

The event, put on through the Coupeville Boys and Girls Club, drew 28 participants, said CHS head football coach Brett Smedley.

“We had a great turn out and they had a great time!” he said.

Drawing in both girls and boys on a sunny afternoon, the clinic featured a mix of lessons and fun.

As he continues to build his own program at the high school, Smedley is also reaching out to the sport at other levels.

Getting assistance from a wide range of helpers was invaluable, he said.

“I’d like to thank the Boys and Girls Club, Coupeville Elementary, the CHS Football Team, Coach (Bob) Martin, and Coach (Ryan) King for putting this on!”

With the start of a new season just around the corner, many of Coupeville High School’s female booters are taking part in a summer camp this week.

The camp, held at Fort Nugent, is running from Monday through Thursday. The first official day of high school practice is Aug. 24.

It’s the first summer camp sponsored by the North Whidbey Soccer Club, which means local players didn’t have to travel off-Island for once.

The camp, which is run by Nicholas Dziminowicz, a former D1 college player, has drawn a large response from Wolf players, who are accounting for about 70% of the attendees.

Start practicing now, and one day you can

   Start practicing now, and one day you might suit up for the Wolves, following in the footsteps of Allison Wenzel.

The first one went so well they’re having a second one.

Coupeville High School volleyball players and coaches will host a free clinic for elementary school students in grades K-6 this Saturday, Oct. 18.

The clinic will run from 10-11:30 AM in the CHS gym.

No registration is required, just a desire to learn volleyball skills in a fun environment.

Also, if you bring your autograph book, you might snag some one-on-one time with Wolf stars such as Hailey Hammer, McKenzie Bailey and Kyla Briscoe. So, there’s that too.
