The goals dried up in a hurry.

Coming off a game in which it scored eight times, and could have doubled that if it hadn’t spent the final 30 minutes playing keep-away, the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad hit a road bump Tuesday.

Facing a tough-nosed Bellevue Christian team, the Wolves fell 6-0 in a non-conference game.

The loss dropped CHS to 1-2-1 on the season, with another non-conference road game just around the corner.

That one is Thursday at 2A Sequim, against a team that has split its first two contests against Coupeville’s fellow 1A Olympic League teams.

Sequim beat Chimacum 2-0, then lost to defending 1A state champ Klahowya 2-0.

Coupeville had racked up 13 goals in its first three games, with freshmen Kalia Littlejohn finding the back of the net in each of the contests, but that run came to an end at the hands of Vikings goalkeepers Emilie Groeschel and Julia Gottlieb.

Bellevue punched home three goals in each half, with Bella Boscolo leading the way with a two-goal night.

Lucy Rash led BC with a pair of assists.

Forward progress.

It didn’t get the win it wanted, falling 3-2 in overtime to visiting Cascade Christian Wednesday, but the Coupeville High School boys’ soccer squad did break through.

Junior Abraham Leyva punched in a pair of first-half goals to snap a scoreless streak that had plagued the Wolves through the first three games of the season.

Unfortunately, CHS couldn’t make a 2-1 halftime lead hold up and fell to 0-4 in non-conference play.

The deciding goal came with about a minute left to play in the overtime period.

While the loss stung, the progress in all aspects of the game cheered CHS coach Kyle Nelson.

“The boys continue to improve,” he said. “Our defensive effort and passing game was much better.

“We will continue to work hard in practice and look to get our first victory Saturday.”

The Wolves return to action with a home game against Forks that day.

In a reversal of the normal order, varsity plays first at 1 PM, followed by the JV at 3.

Not even being attacked by her own hair on a breakaway can derail the goal-scoring machine that is Micky LeVine.

Normally one of the anchors of the CHS defense, Jacki Ginnings moved up and scored her first-ever high school goal against Chimacum.

Seven Wolf booters have a secret bond.

They have each experienced something this season that the other 12 players on the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad (currently 4-4-1) have not.

They know what it feels like to have a ball shoot off their foot and end up buried in the back of the net while a rival goaltender sheds a single, solitary tear of regret.

These Magnificent Seven, if you will, are the queens of the pitch. Four seniors and three freshmen, a mix of seasoned vets and explosive newcomers.

The only problem?

Now that they’ve scored, whether once or multiple times, they’ll need to feel that rush again and again.

They’ll need the thrill of the score. The roar of the crowd. The adrenaline spike.

Good thing they still have four more regular season games and then a probable playoff run to get their fix.

The current leaders:

Micky LeVine – 5 goals
Mia Littlejohn – 3
Marisa Etzell – 2
Erin Rosenkranz -2
Lauren Bayne – 1
Jacki Ginnings – 1
Sage Renninger – 1

Everyone scored. Almost.

Passing the ball with conviction, the Coupeville Elementary School students who patrol the soccer pitch for the Central Whidbey soccer squad sponsored by Ciao found the net with stunning regularity this season.

17 of 19 players scored at least one goal as the U12 team went 13-5. The only two not to hammer home a goal were slowed by injury.

Wrapping their season with conviction, the booters whipped the Oak Harbor Crushers 8-1 and 8-0 Saturday to wrap their season. Four Ciao players scored for the first time in the wins.

Leading into the final weekend, part of the squad took on, and soundly defeated, its fifth grade teachers from CES 5-1 in a “friendly” earlier in the week.

The impressive roster:

4th grade:

Miles Davidson

5th grade:

Owen Barenburg
Sage Downes
Dakota Eck
Alex Jimenez
Eli Kastner
Matthew Kelley
Michael Laska
Jake Mitten
Isaac Shelly
Samuel Wynn

6th grade:
