The end of a month approaches, and the end of a season.

As October plays out, Coupeville High School teams are moving down the backstretch with fall sports activity.

Wolf cross country is off to Tri-Districts at Ft. Steilacoom this coming Wednesday, Oct. 30, with an eye on qualifying for the state meet.

Meanwhile, football heads to Friday Harbor on Halloween for its regular-season finale, with a league title and playoff berth in the balance.

Things are ramping up.

As we move into the latter stages of October, fall sports teams will begin deciding league titles and making the push for the playoffs.

Or just flat out starting the postseason in some cases.

Coupeville High School cross country is the first to begin its postseason trek with an appearance this Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Northwest 2B/1B League Championships in Mount Vernon.

For the undefeated Wolf volleyball squad, there are two road trips on the docket.

A victory in Concrete Thursday will give CHS the undisputed conference crown, while a non-league rumble Saturday in Neah Bay will be a great test for a team looking to play deep into the season.

Meanwhile, the somewhat surprising Wolf soccer squad, which sits in second place in an ultra-competitive conference, travels to Friday Harbor on Tuesday, then to Lopez Island Thursday for two stiff challenges.

Rounding out things is CHS football, which celebrates Senior Night Friday when it hosts Winlock in a non-conference tilt.

The key to winning teams? Proper hydration. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Everyone is in action, but not everyone is at home.

Two of the four fall sports teams at Coupeville High School exclusively hit the road in the week ahead, while two get to play a mixed schedule.

Wolf cross country travels to Lake Padden in Bellingham Thursday for the Lake Lap Invite, while football is off to Adna Friday for a non-conference tilt.

Meanwhile, soccer and volleyball play one at home, and one on the road.

The booters travel to Grace Academy Tuesday, before hosting Mount Vernon Christian Friday.

For the CHS spikers, it’s a road trip to MVC Tuesday, then a home tilt Thursday with La Conner in a match which looms large in the chase for a league crown.

Keep the busses revved up.

Five of the seven events on the schedule for Coupeville High School’s sports teams next week are slated to go down off of Whidbey.

Meanwhile, the Wolf gridiron team treks to Juanita Saturday for a showdown with Cedar Park Christian-Bothell.

Last but not least the Coupeville harriers run on Orcas Island Wednesday, before ending the week Saturday in Seattle for a meet hosted by King’s.

Welcome back to full tilt action.

Fall high school sports are fully engaged at this point, with everyone starting to work their way through the early schedule.

Four of six events this coming week are at home for Coupeville, providing local fans a chance to see the Wolves up close and personal.

Co-ed soccer leads the way, with home games against Friday Harbor and Grace Academy Tuesday and Saturday, respectively.

While those are against league foes, both early-season tilts are considered non-conference affairs, just to keep things confusing.

Joining the booters at home are Wolf football, which welcomes Granite Falls to Cow Town Saturday, and volleyball, which travels to Friday Harbor Tuesday before hosting Mount Vernon Christian Thursday.

Finally, CHS cross country hits the trails down in Langley Saturday for the 45th annual Carl Westling Invitational.
