Big O is on his way back home.

Shortly after he was named a captain for this year’s Coupeville High School football team, Oscar Liquidano’s family left town in the spring and moved to Las Vegas.

That left the Wolves one captain down, as Liquidano, the team’s biggest lineman, was supposed to share honors this year with fellow seniors Carson Risner, Aaron Wright and Josh Bayne.

Now, things have taken a huge swing for the positive, as word hits that Liquidano is returning to Coupeville for his senior year.

Getting back a big, veteran two-way lineman who will work alongside Risner, Wright, Matt Shank and others, is a huge boost for the Wolf football team.

“I can’t like this enough!!!” wrote jubilant CHS quarterback Joel Walstad when the news hit Facebook.

Liquidano, who also plays basketball and soccer, is expected to reach town by Saturday. He’ll be a couple of practices behind, but has time to catch up before the start of the season.

While nothing is set in stone, the young man at the center of things was cautiously thrilled Thursday night.

“We’ll just have to wait and see,” Liquidano said. “I have faith in God that it will happen.”

Vegas 2, Coupeville 0.

A family move is taking two of Coupeville High School’s most-promising athletes away just two games into a new boys’ soccer season.

CHS junior Oscar Liquidano and his younger brother Uriel, a Wolf freshman, departed the team after Tuesday night’s home game against Cedarcrest.

The move will leave Coupeville down a football captain in the fall, when Oscar Liquidano was set to lead the Wolves along side Aaron Wright, Josh Bayne and Carson Risner.

“Devastating. I love that kid,” said CHS football coach Tony Maggio.

Both Liquidano brothers were three-sport athletes in the two years they lived in town, playing football, basketball and soccer.

While Uriel, aka “Woody,” had begun to make his presence felt at the high school level, his older brother was already an extremely popular part of Wolf Nation.

Big O, an easy-going dude, was famous for an incredible one-man cheer performance that rocked the gym at Mount Vernon Christian as a sophomore.

Arms waving wildly in the air, he had out-screamed the home cheering section by himself as the Wolf boys’ basketball team snapped a season-and-a-half losing streak.

His departure will leave an impact on his friends and teammates.

“You will be missed by all of Coupeville; you are a great teammate and a better friend,” said CHS senior soccer player Gunnar Langvold. “I will miss your joyful presence in school.

“I hope you have a good time where you will live, stay out of trouble and don’t change,” he added.

Even if he moves to Las Vegas with his family, the legend will live on in Coupeville.

Even if he moves to Las Vegas with his family, his legend will live on in Coupeville.

Aaaaaa-goooooo-nyyyyyyyy.

It’s not 100% certain yet, but there’s a very real possibility the Wolves will lose one of their football captains before he can suit up for his senior season.

Junior lineman Oscar Liquidano, who also plays basketball and soccer for Coupeville High School, may be pilfered away from the red and black if a family move to Las Vegas happens shortly.

“Well, it’s not a sure thing … but only God knows what will happen,” Liquidano said.

The easy-going man mountain was supposed to join Josh Bayne, Carson Risner and Aaron Wright to lead the Wolves into a new league next season. Coupeville is hopping out of the 1A/2A Cascade Conference and joining the 1A Olympic League.

CHS football coach Tony Maggio was last seen huddled in a corner, tears running down his face. Or, at least that’s how I imagine it…

“Devastating. I love that kid,” Maggio said.

If the move happens, it will actually take two football players away from Coupeville, as younger brother Uriel was a standout defensive player for the JV this year as a freshman.

I could do this all day long.

Ever since my sister, Sarah Kirkconnell (http://www.gazingin.com/) introduced me to PicMonkey (http://www.picmonkey.com/,) a web site where you can craft all sorts of things out of photos, I have run amuck.

It started with a nearly 60-page picture book that I made for someone, a film noir-influenced tale of hard-bitten private eyes tracking a missing dog.

The real life femme fatale got back her wayward doggie, then got a book to remember the surreal 36-hour adventure of those who went searching for the fluffy pup.

Today I tried out the “posterize” feature on the site and the five “works of art” above are my creations.

They use photos originally shot by John Fisken and Robert Bishop, and pay homage to my one true life-long love — the movies.

Sweet, sweet time-wasting…
