Swing away for a good cause.

The Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools is welcoming serve and volleyers back to the CHS gym Saturday, May 16, with proceeds benefitting local students.

Door open at 10:30 AM for check in and warm up, with play in the 2026 Spring Smash Pickleball FUNdraiser kicking off at 11:15.

Cost is $50 per player with the tourney limited to 48 players (24 teams), and you can register as a duo or a single player looking for a partner.

This is a social, with all playing abilities welcomed.

The tourney will be played in a round robin format, with five games guaranteed. Matches will go to 11 points, win by two, with a playoff for the winners of each bracket.

Players are asked to bring their own pickleball rackets, though organizers will have a few extra to borrow, just in case.

Non-marring shoes need to be worn to protect the gym floors, and pickle balls will be provided.

Lunch, snacks, and drinks, including smashburgers, will be sold, and the event is offering t-shirts for sale this time around — cost is $25 for a garment, with shirts needing to be purchased in advance by May 3.

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase during the tourney, with prizes including a pickleball themed basket including an Onix Malice 14 paddle valued at $250.

A “very large bouquet of flowers” valued at $200 and a “pickleball quilted door/wall hanging with extra gifts” valued at $150 are also in play.

Door prizes will be offered for best matching outfits and punniest team name, with bracket winners and the overall winner and runner up walking away with prizes of their own.

The fundraiser benefits the schools foundation, which raises $40,000 a year through fundraisers and donations, with the money being turned into enrichment grants for teachers, scholarships for students, and the Promise Fund.

The first one was a smashing success, so they’re returning for another go-round.

The Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools will host a Pickleball FUNdraiser Round Robin Social May 10, with proceeds benefitting local students.

All the action will unfold at the Coupeville High School gym. Doors open at 10:30 AM, with matches starting at 11:15 and ending around 4:00 PM.

A round robin format will be used, with everyone guaranteed at least five matches.

Signups will be limited to 24 two-person teams.

If you have a pickleball racket, bring it with you.

If not, there will be a few that can be borrowed. If you’re going that route, let them know when you signup.

The event is open to all ability levels.

“This a social, a fundraiser, and a chance to get a little exercise while benefitting a great non-profit organization!” said organizer James Steller.

Lunch (including smashburgers), snacks, and drinks will be available, with proceeds adding to the fundraising.

There will also be a raffle, with a “a three-night stay in a great two-bedroom condo at the Sun Peaks, British Columbia resort during the summer of 2025” being the big prize.

With the money it raises each year, the Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools provides enrichment grants for teachers and scholarships for students.

Pick up a paddle and help support local students and teachers.

The Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools is hosting a pickleball fundraiser Oct. 19 at the CHS gym, with the proceeds going to help the group’s work in the classroom.

The foundation provides enrichment grants for teachers and scholarships for teachers, as well as funding the Promise Fund, which supports equity in education.

Whether you’re a pickleball pro or have never played, all skill levels are welcome.

“This is a social, a fundraiser, and a chance to get a little exercise while benefitting a great non-profit organization!” event organizer James Steller said. “We want everyone to have fun.”

There will be a category for people who consider themselves beginners or novices, with another category for those who “think they are a bit better or just OK.”

Each category is limited to 24 players, forming 12 teams.

The event will feature a round robin format, with 3-5 games guaranteed depending on how many people show up.

Lunch, snacks, and drinks will be sold, with a raffle and door prizes as well.

Don’t want to take the court yourself? You can still donate to the cause.

It’s the sport that’s sweeping the nation.

Pickleball, invented on Bainbridge Island in the ’60s, combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong into a game perfect for all age, and skill groups.

At the professional level, South Whidbey High School graduates Lindsey and Riley Newman are among the best in the world, raking in money and medals as they terrorize all challengers.

Now, the city of Langley is putting on a community day devoted to the sport, with all events free to the public.

Things go down from 10-2 this Saturday, July 10, at the South Whidbey Sports Complex (5598 Langley Road).

There will be pickleball demonstrations, with raffles and snacks, and the opportunity to sign up for programs.

All ages are welcome, with families encouraged to attend together.

If rain should splatter down upon Langley, the event will be bumped back a week, until Saturday, July 17.
