This is your time to join the movement.

Parents of students in the Coupeville High School Class of 2025 are ramping up for next month’s Race the Reserve and are looking for sponsors and people willing to donate for goodie bags.

The event, set for August 10, is the biggest fundraiser for each year’s graduating class.

Organizers are planning 300 goodie bags and are looking for a wide variety of things.

“Goodie bag items can be coupons, advertisements, lip balm, sunscreen, granola bars, anything really,” said Wolf Mom Christi Messner.

Donations need to be made by Aug. 5.

You can also sponsor the race, and the deadline for that is much closer, arriving this coming Wednesday, July 24.

Rain or shine, the season was a success.

With less-than-stellar weather still gripping The Rock, Central Whidbey Little League held its year-end celebration inside this year.

That didn’t mute the excitement, as CWLL honored its 118 players, 11 teams, and countless support staff.

“We are grateful for our coaches, umpires, volunteers, parents, and everyone involved in bringing this outstanding sport to our kids,” CWLL Safety Officer Ana Maria Valencia said.

“We couldn’t do any of this without them all!”

Valencia offered special praise to those who stepped up to make sure work on the fields was done, and the concession stand remained open.

The trio of Mike Peters, James Meek, and Sage Sharp excelled as umpires, and Valencia and Co. would love to see others make the same commitment.

“Without these dedicated volunteers we wouldn’t have games,” she said. “They are crucial to our sport and not given enough recognition.

“Leagues across the country are struggling to find umpires. CWLL was very fortunate this year to have a few dedicated volunteers step up and commit to a majority of games within their division which not only offered continuity but peace of mind.”

CWLL, which is always on the outlook to add more men or women in blue, provides training for interested participants.

“This is the best way to learn the rules of the game, see it from a different perspective and never get a cold seat!” Valencia said.

Also important to the well-being of CWLL is a functioning concession stand, as sales count for a third of the league’s operating budget.

Promise and Matt Sandlin have led ongoing upgrades to the stand, while Angel and Amanda Castellanos were this year’s top concession volunteers.

CWLL also raised money this season with a raffle, which offered the winners a four-pack of tickets to a Seattle Mariners home game.

Players sold tickets and raised $6,453.

And, while the regular season is done, local fans can head out to Rhododendron Park June 15, when CWLL hosts an All-Star softball tourney.

“It’s not too late to get in on the action and enjoy a meal at the fields while you’re at it,” Valencia said.

Sponsors are “our lifeline to the community,” according to Valencia.

Your booster club awaits your arrival. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

You can have a big impact on the Coupeville Booster Club.

The group, which supports Wolf athletics, has sold all of its “Elite Silver” and “Elite Gold” memberships for 2024, but has five to six “Elite Bronze” slots still up for grabs.

Cost is $750 and comes with a sign which is hung in the entrance to the Coupeville High School/Middle School gym.

Whether you have a business, organization, or civic group, or just want to promote the awesomeness of your family, it’s a perfect level for one and all.

If you’re interested in snagging the deal, contact the booster club at coupevillebc@gmail.com.

And while you’re doing that, think about attending the next board meeting, which is set for 6:00 PM on Thursday, Jan. 18 in the health room, which is on your left as you enter the gym.

Among items to be considered that night will be the election of a new slate of officers, including president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

Why get involved with the club? Because you’d be helping keep an invaluable resource chugging along.

The organization annually awards eight $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors, while also providing a yearly stipend to high school and middle school sports programs.

The club provides roses for Senior Night festivities, varsity letters for Wolf athletes, meal money and goodie bags for road trips, and numerous team improvement items.

These have ranged from literature and DVDs to tarps, weight room equipment, batting cages, upgrades to school athletic fields and facilities, and t-shirts for cancer awareness nights.

The Wall of Fame in the CHS gym, which documents accomplishments from 100+ years of Coupeville athletics?

It wouldn’t exist without the support of the boosters, who provided the biggest financial contribution to its development, and continue to handle updates.

They got by with a little help from their friends.

Central Whidbey Little League sent two softball teams to the state tournament this spring, with their juniors squad, which finished fourth, a joint effort with North Whidbey Little League.

Both teams benefited immensely from the support of the local community, with numerous Whidbey businesses helping defer costs for players and families to travel off-Island.

“This was an amazing experience for 28 of these Whidbey Island young athletes!,” said juniors coach Fred Farris. “The memories will live with them for years to come.

“Both teams represented CW, NW, and District 11 admirably, both on and off the field, during their respective tournaments, against the best teams in the state, and we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and excellent sportsmanship.”

Additional support was garnered through car washes and a GoFundMe page.
