Hailey Hammer: The Early Days, Part 1.

I got places to go…

Wait, there's more.

“I am the champion! Bring it on, Bailey!!”

Now a softball sensation.

Hammer Time, modern day.

McKayla Bailey bides her time. "Oh, just you wait. I don't give up my crown that easily."

McKayla Bailey bides her time. “Oh, just you wait. I don’t give up my crown that easily.”

When it comes to cameras, there is one undisputed champ, and her name is McKayla Bailey.

But dang it if Hailey Hammer isn’t coming hard for her crown.

Unleashing not one, but THREE old school photos, the Coupeville High School senior makes her record-setting fourth appearance in a Throwback Thursday article.

That breaks a tie with Bailey, who, somewhere, is already plotting her way back into the game.

Let the shenanigans begin.

away

A rare down moment for a three-sport athlete.

Monica Vidoni roots for the wrong baseball team. Let’s just get that out there.

She’s a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fanatic, and, the simple fact is, the Pittsburgh Pirates are the far superior MLB franchise.

Truth. End of story.

And no, I really don’t need to be told what their respective records are right now.

That changes nothing. Nothing!

But anyway, get away from her obvious blindness in matters of baseball and Ms. Vidoni, who will be a senior at CHS in the fall, has become one of my favorites.

A three-sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, softball), she took great strides as a junior, lettering twice and starting for a softball squad that went to the state tourney.

She and Wolf teammates Kacie Kiel, Wynter Thorne and Kailey Kellner recently attended a basketball camp at Western Washington University, where they came away the undefeated camp champs.

As she heads towards her final year of high school sports, there is little doubt Vidoni will be “ballin’ hard.”

Here’s to hoping her finale plays out in grand fashion.

Hailey Hammer, the early days.

Hailey Hammer, the early days.

Now a softball sensation.

Now a homer-launching softball sensation.

Hailey Hammer has been so good for so long, in so many sports, it kind of seems like she’s been at Coupeville High School forever.

But even the legends have to start somewhere, as today’s time machine photo shows.

Bouncing from Tigger to being a rock-solid three-sport (volleyball, basketball, softball) athlete for the Wolves, Hammer is a quiet star.

She doesn’t scream and holler and try to grab the spotlight. She just goes out, game after game, and season after season, and puts up solid numbers in everything she does.

Hailey is a true gamer, and a quality young woman, to boot.

It has been an honor to cover her exploits for three years, and I look forward to her senior year.

You’re a class act, Hammer Time. Never change.

They’ve been athletic their entire lives.

Soccer sensation Erin Rosenkranz and her cousins, multi-talented Jake and Connor McCormick, have been involved in sports from the start.

In the early days, it was swim lessons together, as shown in the rare photo above.

These days Rosenkranz, who will be a senior at Coupeville High School in the fall, is a distance runner on the track team and a year-round star on the soccer pitch.

Her cousins play tennis, soccer, football, track and paintball and have made their own splashes in the world of Wolf athletics.

The family that plays together stays together — it applies not just to brothers and sisters, but cousins as well.

Pick a sport and Valen Trujillo will shine.

The Coupeville High School sophomore-to-be was a standout volleyball and tennis player as a freshman and the tales of her middle school basketball exploits — when she made two King’s players run out of the gym crying — are legends still echoing through the hallways of the gym.

As she heads into summer vacation, we take a quick look back at an earlier moment, when she and little sis Zoe showed they were champion fish catchers, as well.

Once a champ, always a champ.
